Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, on no! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Roy Hendrix! The judges for this bout are Ron Honeybunn, Hugh Johnson and John Mangel.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! no rushes Hendrix and presses him up against the cage. Hendrix is fighting off a takedown attempt but no is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Hendrix to the mat. Hendrix regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat. Hendrix is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst no is controlling him. Hendrix looking to sweep here. No luck so far. no seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up. no postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. no postures up in Hendrix's guard and throws a big left but Hendrix blocks it. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. no distracts Hendrix with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm. no throws a big elbow that misses. no looking to pass the guard. Hendrix wants to sweep but no luck.
That's one minute gone in the round. no's corner is telling him to maintain position. no postures up in Hendrix's guard and throws a big left but Hendrix blocks it. no showing good wrestling skills to control the position. Hendrix looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights. no tries to free his leg and advance position but Hendrix is retaining full guard. no throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet. no gets a takedown into half guard. no stands up and beckons Hendrix to join him on the feet.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Hendrix fails with a takedown attempt. Hendrix looks winded! no throws a nice looking combination but Hendrix bobs and weaves to avoid any damage. no gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here. no on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.
no has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Hendrix regains guard immediately. no working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Hendrix's head. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! no throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent. no postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Hendrix is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of no, into his guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now. no wants to stand but Hendrix is controlling the position. Hendrix throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent. no pushes Hendrix off and gets back to his feet.
Hendrix wants to clinch up but no keeps it at a distance. no displaying good standup as he scores with a three punch combination.
It looks like Roy Hendrix has been cut. no misses with a series of wild punches.
Hendrix changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt. no tries a head kick but it misses.
Hendrix tries to counter with a clinch but no shakes him off and moves away.
That's four minutes gone in the round. no has closed the distance and engaged Hendrix in a clinch.
no slows down the pace here.
no softening up his opponent with strikes, against the cage. no has Hendrix pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. no pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Hendrix tumbling to the mat - no dives into Hendrix's guard. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Hendrix working a defensive guard here.
no lands a couple of elbows. no is looking to work some ground and pound but Hendrix has wrist control. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
on no dominated that round. The cut man is working on Roy Hendrix's cut. Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!
no lands a head kick. Hendrix smiles back at him and beckons him forward. no closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard. Hendrix keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound. Hendrix is trying to defend against the ground and pound but no scores with a couple of nice shots.
Hendrix is rocked! on no overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. no working over Hendrix with some ground and pound. Hendrix looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable. Hendrix is still in real trouble! Can no finish him? Hendrix has hold of no's hands but no slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow. no slips a nice elbow through Hendrix's hands, connecting with Hendrix's forehead. no is sitting in half guard. He's postured up and lands a nice elbow. Oh, Hendrix is hurt! He's hurt bad - no fires away with more strikes and the referee jumps in to save Hendrix from any more punishment! Congratulations to no! Great finish!
