Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the lightweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 22 - 4 - 1, fighting out of Sydney, Van Pol!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 12 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Deangelo Sturtsil!
The judges for this bout are Hugh Johnson, Chris Dean and Topper Green.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Sturtsil throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Pol was covering up waiting for the punch and Sturtsil finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Pol has control of Sturtsil's left arm, preventing Sturtsil from doing any damage.
Sturtsil wants to control from the top but Pol keeps moving.
Pol is looking to stand up but Sturtsil isn't so interested in that idea.
Sturtsil postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Sturtsil throws an elbow that misses. Pol uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Sturtsil's guard. Nice move by Pol!

Pol decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Sturtsil shoots in looking for a takedown. Pol tries to sprawl out of it but Sturtsil keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Pol manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Pol keeps Sturtsil at a distance using the push kick.
Pol throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Sturtsil on the side of the head.
Pol tries to close the distance and clinch but Sturtsil swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Van Pol has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Deangelo Sturtsil.
That kick from Pol tenderised Sturtsil's leg. Sturtsil is trying to keep his angry face on.
Pol dips to his left and cracks Sturtsil with an uppercut!
Sturtsil shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Pol defends it nicely.
Nice uppercut lands for Pol. That snapped Sturtsil's head back.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Pol misses with an uppercut. Sturtsil saw that one coming.
Pol keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

Sturtsil scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.

The fighters are battling for position here. Pol manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
Sturtsil has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Sturtsil tries to get to full guard but Pol has control of the leg.
Sturtsil wants to control but Pol is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Pol tries to stand but his arm is trapped.
Pol is trying to advance to mount but he's lost his balance and Sturtsil reverses the position - he's now on top in Pol's guard.
Sturtsil throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Pol works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Pol seems keen to control Sturtsil's posture.

Sturtsil drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Pol manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Sturtsil has Pol in his guard.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Van Pol dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


A right-left combo lands from Pol.
Pol keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Pol connects with a body shot.
Pol throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Sturtsil on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Pol. Pol obviously looking to wear him down.
Sturtsil dives in and grabs Pol's left leg, looking for a takedown. Pol pushes down on Sturtsil's head and hops out.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

The fight moves into the clinch position.

A head punch on the inside from Pol fails to land.
Pol manages to get underhooks and slows down the pace for a moment.
Sturtsil is working for takedown but Pol is calmly controlling the position for now.
Sturtsil blocks a punch to the side of the head.
Pol gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Sturtsil.
Sturtsil is looking for a takedown.
Pol lands on the inside with an uppercut.
Sturtsil is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Pol gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
Pol fails to land with a short punch on the inside.
Pol tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.
Pol is pressed up against the cage. Sturtsil has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Pol down to the mat. Pol avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Pol feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Sturtsil's calf.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Pol dips to his left and cracks Sturtsil with an uppercut!


Sturtsil is rocked!
Pol ducks down and throws a big overhand right - it lands flush on the jaw, knocking Sturtsil out cold! The fight is over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:11 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Van Pol!
