Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Ramsay Darrow! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
12 - 5 - 0, fighting out of London, Antonio Zarco! The judges for this bout are Ren Mimura, Yasuomi Hirokawa and Shirou Masuda.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Darrow misses with a body shot
and Zarco counters with a quick right hand to the jaw. Darrow feints and then cracks Zarco's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Zarco down. Zarco thuds a mid kick into his opponent's body. That will wear on Darrow if he has to take too many more of those.
Zarco scores with a nice strike. Darrow swings and misses with a shot to the body and Zarco counters with a stiff right hand. Darrow misses the shot to the body. Zarco tries a head kick but it misses.
Darrow half committed to a counter leg kick. A decent looking body kick lands there for Darrow. We've been hearing reports that Darrow has been drilling takedowns in recent sessions so let's see if that has an impact on the result of this fight. A nice leg kick lands there from Darrow. Zarco throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. Darrow looked to counter that last move with a leg kick but didn't pull the trigger. Zarco moves into range and clinches up with Darrow. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Darrow tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Zarco's elbow. Zarco lands a knee to the head.
Zarco blocks an uppercut.
Zarco misses with the head strike.
Darrow misses with a short punch on the inside.
That's one minute gone in the round. Darrow misses with a short punch on the inside. Zarco lands with a short punch from the clinch.
Darrow is rocked! Darrow misses with some punches.
Oh Darrow is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!! An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Darrow. Zarco blocks a couple of punches on the inside.
Zarco lands a body punch - he's looking to wear down Darrow. Darrow seems to have got his legs back now. Darrow on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.
Darrow swings wildly with an uppercut but Zarco uses good head movement to avoid it. Zarco working the clinch nicely. Darrow is working for position but Zarco cracks him with a big knee to the head! Darrow crumples up against the ropes and Zarco lands two more shots before the ref can save Darrow! This one is all over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:35 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Knee & Punches). Antonio Zarco! Antonio Zarco was full of energy after the big win and talked about how he thinks he can do big things in this sport. The crowd were appreciative of his determination to succeed.
