PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Anderson Galvao (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Edson Mendes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Mendes is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Hard Hittaz by Three 6 Mafia. On his way into the cage it seems that Anderson Galvao has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Anderson Galvao seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Edson Mendes!
The judges for this bout are Luis Engracia, Leandro Rodrigues and Mauricio Rocha.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Galvao misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.

Galvao decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.

Galvao is going olschool here, as he tries to force Mendes to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Mendes shrugs it off.

Mendes is squirming around, avoiding Galvao's attempts to control the action.

Galvao has hold of Mendes's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Mendes manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Mendes wants to control but Galvao is having none of it.

Mendes wants to get back to his feet.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Mendes is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Galvao's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Galvao's back!

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Galvao jumps guard but Mendes stands there with Galvao around his waist. Galvao gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Anderson Galvao. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Galvao has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Mendes is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

Mendes is fighting off a takedown attempt but Galvao is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Mendes to the mat. Mendes regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.

Galvao is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Mendes has one foot on Galvao's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.
