PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Steve Rogers (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tommy Gunn (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Gunn has chosen N.W.O.-Ministry as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the light heavyweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Tommy Gunn!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gunn with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Rogers to score with a decent uppercut.
Gunn's coach down at Cylon Training Academy was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Gunn's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight.
Gunn takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.
Gunn shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Rogers but Rogers pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Gunn tries to move into range but Rogers moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.
Gunn fails with a takedown attempt.
Rogers was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger.
A clash of legs there as Gunn blocks the low kick.
Nice body punch from Rogers.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Rogers pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
And Gunn tries to counter it with a takedown but Rogers pushes his down on his head and steps out.
Rogers throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Rogers lands with a slapping head kick.
Rogers missing with a left hand there. Gunn was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.

Gunn fails with a takedown attempt.
Steve Rogers has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Tommy Gunn.

Gunn shoots in but no luck this time.
Gunn shoots in for a takedown but Rogers shows good takedown defense.
A low kick from Rogers misses

and Gunn counters with a single leg into guard. Rogers didn't expect that.

Gunn drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Rogers manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Gunn has Rogers in his guard.


Gunn is looking for a triangle but Rogers pushes his legs off easily.

Gunn looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.

Gunn is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Rogers defends well.

Gunn is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Rogers is aware though and is defending well.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Gunn working for submissions but it's allowed Rogers to get to half guard.
Gunn keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.

Rogers decides to stand and escape the position.
Rogers moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination.


It looks like Tommy Gunn has been cut.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

and Gunn counters with a nice double leg into guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Gunn is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Rogers is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Rogers has escaped and now he's on top!

Rogers stands and throws Gunn's legs to the side, diving into side control.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Gunn is being controlled here.
Gunn is trying to improve his position.
Gunn is looking to slip a leg under and get half guard but Rogers is one step ahead and moves to full mount!
Gunn keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Rogers takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Gunn tries to get back to half guard but can't.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Gunn can do anything to dispel that myth.

Rogers controlling from mount.
Gunn is desperately trying to improve his position but Rogers has a good base and remains in mount.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!


Rogers leaves Gunn with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Gunn shoots in looking for a takedown. Rogers tries to sprawl out of it but Gunn keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Rogers manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Rogers scores with a hook.
Rogers misses with a two punch combination.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Gunn keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Gunn takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.
Rogers throws a jab but it's blocked by Gunn.
Gunn shoots in looking for a takedown but Rogers manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Gunn's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Steve Rogers has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Tommy Gunn.

Rogers throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Rogers throws a shot from downtown. Gunn moves away and avoids it.
Gunn ducks under a wild hook from Rogers.
Rogers scores with a hook.
Gunn cracks a nice hook into Rogers's ribs.

Rogers lands a big right hand that sends Gunn crashing to the mat! Rogers stays standing though and waves Gunn back to his feet!


Gunn is rocked!
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Gunn is keeping his hands low and just asking to be knocked out. Rogers Raises his leg and lands a stunning axe kick! Gunn is out cold, face down on the mat!
