Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Heath Carlson! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Lucien Simoneau! The judges for this bout are Ian Loll, William Peck and Yves DeLean.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Simoneau circles away from the clinch attempt.
Simoneau has a takedown stuffed. Carlson stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Carlson wants it to stay on the feet. Simoneau shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard. Simoneau is nestled in close to Carlson, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Simoneau is looking to advance position but Carlson won't allow it. Simoneau wants to take a breather but Carlson is having none of it.

No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Simoneau punching to the body, from the bottom. Carlson gets to his feet. Carlson has Simoneau pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Carlson pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Simoneau tumbling to the mat - Carlson dives into Simoneau's guard. Simoneau looking to hit a scissor sweep but Carlson is one step ahead there. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work. Carlson is looking to clinch.

Carlson has had enough of the clinch but Simoneau keeps him there for the moment. Simoneau changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Carlson fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Simoneau gets caught flat footed, as Carlson shoots in with a quick takedown into guard. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Simoneau avoiding any damage from the ground and pound. Carlson is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Simoneau can do to turn this around?

Carlson tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Simoneau paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Carlson really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape. Carlson wants to stand but Simoneau is controlling his arm. Simoneau takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.

Carlson wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Simoneau, who protects the arm well. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Simoneau misses with a strike from the bottom. Simoneau tries to buck Carlson off but Carlson is having none of it. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Simoneau is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. Simoneau takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired. Carlson advances position into side control! Carlson wants to stand but Simoneau has his arm trapped. Carlson has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Carlson wants to control but Simoneau is keeping him busy.

Heath Carlson is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach. Simoneau must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Carlson bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Simoneau's guard.
