PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Edmund Compton (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bob Good (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Bob Good will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 1, fighting out of Sydney, Edmund Compton!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Bob Good!
The judges for this bout are Eliza Hachem, Bruno Hogan and Francis DeMontford.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Good decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Good seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Compton could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Good wants to pass the guard but Compton is defending well.
Compton is trying to control but can't.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Compton is pressing down on Good's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Compton keeping moving, preventing Good from controlling successfully.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Good's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Compton controls Good momentarily but Good frees himself.
Good passes Compton's right leg, so he's now in half guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Good with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.

Good stands up and beckons Compton to join him on the feet.

Good gets a takedown into half guard.
Good stalling.
Compton is not content to let Good control the position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Good throwing shots but Compton is blocking nicely.
Compton blocking the ground and pound attempt from Good.
Good wants to free his trapped foot but Compton is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Compton works his way to full guard. Good work.
Good is looking to stand up but Compton won't let him.
Good trying to control but Compton is working from the bottom.
Good throws a strike but Compton rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.


That's three minutes gone in the round.
Good is trying to keep Compton in close.
Compton with a flurry of punches that miss.
Compton postures up in Good's guard and throws a big left but Good blocks it.
Good is adopting a defensive guard.
Compton wants to control from the top but Good keeps moving.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Good is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Compton is controlling him.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
No joy there for Good, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

Good moves into the clinch successfully.
Compton is trying to drag Good to the mat but Good just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Compton is looking to take this one to the mat.

Good pulls guard effortlessly.
Good is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Good looking for a sweep. Not yet Good, not yet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Bob Good dominated that round.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!


Good tries to clinch but Compton is having none of it.

Good clinches with his opponent.
Compton jumps guard but Good turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.

Good has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Compton is trying to keep an underhook but Good manages to get the takedown into half guard.
Good sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Compton defending well though.
Compton makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Compton.
Good trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Good trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Good sitting in guard, not really doing much.
Good stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Compton swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Good being controlled here momentarily.
Good is looking to work some ground and pound but Compton has wrist control.
Good controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Good is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Compton darts in looking for a takedown but Good gets double underhooks and turns Compton into the cage.
Compton checks a leg kick nicely.
Compton dodges the punch combination from Good.
It looked like Compton was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit.

Good shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Compton napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Compton is trying to control Good's posture but Good avoids it.

Good tries for a kimura but Compton is defending well.
Compton is looking for a sweep.
Compton might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Good happy to just control the position for now.
Good trying to control the position but Compton is working away.

Good decides to stand back up.
Bob Good seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Compton shoots in for a takedown but Good shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Edmund Compton. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Good tries to close the distance and clinch up but Compton swats him away and circles back towards the center.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Good rushes Compton and presses him up against the cage.
Good has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
Compton prevents Good from breaking the clinch.

Compton breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Good gets a clinch.

Good jumps guard.
Good is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Good is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Compton defends well.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Compton loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Bob Good showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Back to the action! This is the final round!


Compton has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.


It looks like Edmund Compton has been cut.

Good shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Good was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Good working away.
Good moving around in side mount but really he's just happy to control for now.

Compton parries the strikes from Good easily there. Good is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Compton to escape.
Compton is not content to let Good control the position.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Good feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Good is looking to work some ground and pound but Compton has wrist control.
Good throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Good controls from within his opponent's guard.

Good tries to free his leg and advance position but Compton is retaining full guard.

Compton is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Good is aware though and is defending well.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Good wants to control from the top but Compton keeps moving.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Good shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Compton is trying to defend but Good finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Good missing with the ground and pound from half guard.
Compton has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Good is working away from the top position though.
Compton is in a bad position, trying to hold on for dear life but he is really struggling to maintain any sort of control.

Good wants to stand up but Compton is controlling the position.
Good content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
Good trying to pass the guard but Compton defending well.

Good thows a huge punch but Compton dodges it nicely.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Edmund Compton has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Bob Good is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Good is looking to clinch but Compton is avoiding it.
Compton tries to counter by clinching up but Good breaks away and moves out of range.

And that's the end of the fight!
Bob Good comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Good has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
