Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
8 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Julio Shogun! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Slade Wilson! The judges for this bout are Russell Pearce, Joseph Jones and Lou da Vinci.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! A combination from Wilson does no damage. Shogun on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Wilson. Wilson obviously looking to wear him down.
Shogun throws a head kick that misses and Wilson counters with a nice uppercut. Shogun gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here. A left hand lands to the body for Wilson.
Shogun tries to throw a body punch but Wilson avoids it by throwing Shogun back against the cage. Shogun lands an elbow that stopped Wilson in his tracks for a moment.
It looks like Slade Wilson has been cut. Shogun looking to throw knees to the head but Wilson is blocking nicely.
Shogun tries a body shot but Wilson blocks it.
An uppercut to the body lands inside from Shogun. Shogun working some nice short punches in the clinch. Wilson misses with a hook from the clinch. Shogun breaks the clinch.
Shogun shoots in and drives through. Wilson sprawls well. A head kick lands from Shogun that sends Wilson to the canvas. Wilson tries to scramble back to his feet but Shogun brings him back down into side control. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Shogun is trying to get an arm triangle but Wilson is defending well. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Shogun working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
That's one minute gone in the round. Shogun gets to mount! Wilson was on the offensive and wasn't defending properly. Shogun goes for an armbar but Wilson turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Wilson. Shogun trying to keep a closed guard but Wilson is proving a slippery customer.
Shogun pulls Wilson in close to his closed guard and prevents Wilson from doing any damage or advancing position. Wilson must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Shogun is trying to control the position but Wilson postures up. Shogun looking to sweep here. No luck so far. Shogun is looking for a triangle but Wilson pushes his legs off easily.
Shogun wants to hit a switch here but Wilson passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Shogun there! Shogun tries to hold on but Wilson postures up. Shogun is wriggling around trying to escape.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Shogun tries to lock up and control but Wilson gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away. Shogun is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Wilson is standing up, even though he is in mount.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Shogun misses with a head kick.
A little jabbing left from Wilson on the counter but it doesn't find it's target. Shogun tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Wilson paws at him with a jab and circles away. Shogun misses with a head kick.
Shogun wants to clinch up but Wilson keeps it at a distance. Shogun tries to clinch up. Shogun tries to clinch but fails miserably and Wilson counters with a one-two to the body. Shogun looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight. Wilson fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Shogun. Shogun tries to clinch but Wilson is having none of it. Shogun displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Wilson throws out the jab. Shogun misses with a double jab
and Wilson counters with a crisp one two that drops Shogun! Wilson thinks about following him to the mat for a moment but instead steps back and waves Shogun to his feet! Shogun is in big trouble!
Shogun is rocked! This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Shogun tries to land a leg kick but Wilson saw it coming and moves away.
Oh Shogun is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!! Shogun tries to clinch and Wilson counters with a big right hand! Oh Shogun is in trouble here! Wilson follows up with more strikes and that's it! The ref has stopped it!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:51 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Slade Wilson!
