The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Halpert throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Ben Hard seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Hard shoots in looking for a takedown. Halpert tries to sprawl out of it but Hard keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Halpert manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Halpert swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Halpert lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Hard circles away quickly and effectively.

No joy there for Halpert, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

Halpert wanted to stand there but Hard had control of the position.

Hard escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Halpert gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Hard closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

Hard is looking to advance position but Halpert won't allow it.

Halpert tries to kick Hard off but Hard keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Hard connects with a nice short shot to Halpert's temple.
Hard has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Hard prevents Halpert from standing back up.
Hard seems to have lost interest with the ground game and is thinking about standing back up.
Halpert knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Hard on the ground.

Hard is trying to work for a kimura. He's got his hands clasped together - this could be trouble! No, Halpert has managed to free his arm - good work.

Halpert gets to his feet. Hard looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

Halpert throws a nice looking combination but Hard bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.

and Halpert counters with a nice double leg into side control. Hard won't be happy with that.

The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Halpert throws a right hand that Hard ducks under and follows up with a left that Hard also avoids with ease.
Nice takedown defense from Halpert. No joy for Hard on that attempt.
Halpert swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.

Halpert darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Halpert wants to stand up but Hard is controlling the position.
Hard is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Halpert's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Halpert's back!
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Hard is staying calm and holding on to the back position, whilst working on a rear naked choke. Halpert is defending well though. Hard let's go of the attempt for now.
