Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
23 - 13 - 2, fighting out of Las Vegas, Andrew Morgan! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
10 - 11 - 0, fighting out of New York, Gerald Minor! The judges for this bout are Chris Downing, Robert Twigg and Cecil Peabody.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Morgan takes one on the button. Minor misses with a right hand and Morgan connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle. Minor slips under a jab from Morgan. Morgan throws a jab when Minor was well out of range. Morgan punishes Minor's body with a nice straight punch. Morgan blocks a leg kick. Morgan looked to counter with a high kick but didn't commit. Minor throws a nice inside leg kick. Morgan stuffs the takedown. Morgan looks to score with a jab to the body but Minor is just out of range. Morgan throws a predictable looking body shot
and Minor counters with a takedown into side control. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Morgan is trying to escape and get back to his feet. Minor lands a few punches from side control. Minor prevents Morgan from escaping the position. Minor working the ground and pound but Morgan is defending the strikes. Minor has been taking part in the yoga sessions down at Midnight MMA. Presumably he's going to look for a slick submission... Or maybe he's looking to avoid one.
That's one minute gone in the round. Morgan is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Minor has just dragged him back down to the mat. Minor trying to control the action but Morgan is working from the bottom. Minor throws a strike aimed at the side of Morgan's head but Morgan avoids it well. Morgan pushes Minor away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Minor gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control. Morgan really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape. Minor trying to control the position but Morgan is working away. Minor might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Morgan haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. Minor cracks Morgan with a big right hand but Morgan just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.
Minor tries for a kimura but Morgan is defending well. Minor has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Minor is putting a hurting on Morgan here, landing some big shots from side control. Morgan is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Minor has just dragged him back down to the mat. Check out the look on Minor's face as he threw that strike - that's one determined fighter!
Minor has knee on belly and now moves to full mount! Trouble for Morgan!
That's three minutes gone in the round. Morgan is looking to get back to his feet - it's going to be hard from this position. Minor with shots to the head and body - Morgan looks very uncomfortable down there. Morgan tries to buck Minor off but he can't manage it. Minor landing strikes, looking to finish!
It looks like Andrew Morgan has been cut. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Morgan is trying to get to the cage to help him get back to his feet.
Minor throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Morgan because Minor loaded up on that one. Morgan is trying to stand up. Minor lands a big elbow. Minor with a couple of short strikes.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Morgan squirming around on the bottom, looking to escape.
Morgan somehow manages to escape the mount and get back to his feet! Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Minor blocks a jab. Morgan goes for a spinning back kick but it misses. Morgan misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Minor.
It seemed like Minor was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it. Morgan misses the jab. Minor misses with a low kick. Minor throws out a loose jab but Morgan uses good head movement to avoid it. Minor misses with a leg kick. Minor keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Minor misses the shot to the body. Morgan steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Minor. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Gerald Minor dominated that round. The cut man is working on Andrew Morgan's cut. OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.
Morgan just misses with a punch to the body.
Morgan moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination. Minor fails in his attempt to clinch. Morgan misses with a straight right. Morgan jabs Minor right on the nose. Minor blinks but takes it well. Morgan misses with a combination
and Minor counters with a lovely straight right hand! Minor shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Minor uses his free foot to push down on Morgan's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Morgan. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! You get the feeling that Morgan really doesn't like being in this position too much.
That's one minute gone in the round. Minor unloads with some shots from mount but Morgan bucks and avoids them well.
Minor has been the more effective fighter overall so far. Minor pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage. Morgan is bucking up trying to escape but Minor cracks him with another couple of good strikes. Minor punching from mount but Morgan doing a good job of avoiding damage. Minor looking to finish Morgan with some ground and pound. This is bad for Morgan! Minor throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Morgan because Minor loaded up on that one. Minor lands a nice shot to the head. Morgan trying desperately to get to his feet.
Minor lands with some strikes.
Andrew Morgan's cut is getting worse. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Morgan is really trying hard to get back to his feet.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Minor lands a heavy elbow.
Andrew Morgan's cut is bleeding quite badly. He's got to try and protect it.
The referee calls the doctor in to look at Andrew Morgan's cut. Oh no, the doctor has called an end to the bout!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:39 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Cut). Gerald Minor! Gerald Minor took to the microphone after his victory and thanked his sponsors, KAISER for their support in the buildup to the fight. In defeat, Andrew Morgan stepped up to the mic, saying 'Congratulation to my opponent .... I ain't done. I will be back .. SOON ! '.
