Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Lon Pruitt! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Gabriel Marquez! The judges for this bout are John Kavanagh, Jorge Garcia and Russell Pearce.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Pruitt shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Pruitt was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure! Marquez throws his opponent off and manages to get back to his feet! Nicely done! Marquez darts in looking for a takedown but Pruitt gets double underhooks and turns Marquez into the cage. Pruitt seem to be loading up, looking for a big counter. Pruitt dives in and grabs Marquez's left leg, looking for a takedown. Marquez pushes down on Pruitt's head and hops out. Marquez shoots in but doesn't get the takedown and Pruitt connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle. Pruitt takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Marquez fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Pruitt avoids it really well and circles away. Lon Pruitt has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Gabriel Marquez. Pruitt drives through with a takedown into guard. Marquez pushes Pruitt off and scrambles back to his feet.
That's one minute gone in the round. Marquez doesn't succeed with the takedown and Pruitt holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch. Pruitt jumps guard but Marquez stands there with Pruitt around his waist. Pruitt gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
The referee calls for Pruitt to work.
Pruitt's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. Marquez closes this distance looking for a takedown but Pruitt circles away. Pruitt is looking to counter the offense by Marquez and move into the clinch. Pruitt darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard. Marquez wants to stand back up but Pruitt manages to pass into side control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Sloppy strikes there by Pruitt. Pruitt wants to lay and pray for a moment but Marquez keeps working. Pruitt working the body and head with strikes. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Pruitt has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Marquez shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Pruitt's guard. Pruitt pushes Marquez off and scrambles back to his feet.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Marquez has Pruitt up against the cage in a clinch.
Pruitt wants to take the fight to the mat but Marquez manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch. Pruitt jumps into guard, dragging Marquez to the mat.
Pruitt lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard. Marquez trying to keep a closed guard but Pruitt is proving a slippery customer.
Marquez trying to punch from his back but it's not doing any damage.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Pruitt preventing the sweep. Pruitt trying to control but Marquez is working from the bottom. Pruitt gets to his feet. Marquez looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son! Marquez closes the distance and pushes Pruitt back into the cage. Marquez has Pruitt pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Marquez pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Pruitt tumbling to the mat - Marquez dives into Pruitt's guard. Pruitt is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Marquez tries to pull guard but Pruitt won't allow it.

That was a close round but I would say that Lon Pruitt will probably get the nod. That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

Pruitt tries to score a body lock takedown but Marquez shows good agility there to stay on his feet. Pruitt jumps guard.
Marquez trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Marquez wanted to stand there but Pruitt had control of the position. Pruitt bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Marquez's guard.
Lon Pruitt overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Pruitt stands up from guard. Let's bang! Marquez gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily and Pruitt counters with a two punch combo. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Marquez has a takedown stuffed. Marquez is breathing heavily. Marquez drives through and clinches with Pruitt against the cage.
That's one minute gone in the round. Pruitt tries to pull guard but Marquez forces him back to his feet, against the cage. Pruitt looking for a takedown. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Lon Pruitt. That's going to take a lot out of him. Pruitt pulls guard successfully.
Marquez has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Pruitt is proving hard to escape from. Pruitt not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Pruitt is on top in guard.
Pruitt throws a big right hand that misses. Pruitt will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. Pruitt trying to control the position from guard on top but Marquez is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Pruitt throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Marquez works some decent striking defense from the bottom. Pruitt throws a big elbow that misses. Pruitt keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Marquez's head. Pruitt trying to control but Marquez is working from the bottom. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Pruitt accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Pruitt lands a couple of decent looking shots. Marquez really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Pruitt. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Marquez keeping moving, preventing Pruitt from controlling successfully.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Pruitt prevents Marquez from getting back to his feet. The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace. Pruitt postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity. Pruitt fails with a takedown attempt. Marquez is looking for the big counter here. Pruitt is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Marquez can do to turn this around? Pruitt instigates a clinch.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Marquez throws a blind hook that connects with the side of Pruitts head. Pruitt dictating the pace here, as the fighters clinch against the cage. Marquez jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Pruitt walks away with a smile on his face. Marquez gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head. Marquez clinches up with Pruitt and pushes him back against the cage. Pruitt tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Marquez just stands there and leans against the cage. Marquez can't get the takedown.
Pruitt jumps guard but Marquez stands there with Pruitt around his waist. Pruitt gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Marquez is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Pruitt gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Pruitt is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Marquez can't fight it off and eventually Pruitt manages to take the fight to the floor. Marquez looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard. Marquez trying to keep a closed guard but Pruitt is proving a slippery customer.

Lon Pruitt dominated that second round. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Pruitt keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action. Marquez is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Marquez has a hand on Pruitt's thigh, trying to get back to full guard. Pruitt takes advantage of the position though and mounts him! Marquez takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired. Pruitt is landing with some decent strikes but Marquez is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue. Pruitt lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Marquez can't escape the position.
Marquez takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position. Pruitt lands a big shot there that rocks Marquez but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.
Pruitt has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. BOOM! Pruitt connects with a massive shot to the dome!
Pruitt landing strikes, looking to finish! Marquez tries to reverse the position but Pruitt maintains control. Pruitt trying to control but he's not successful this time.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Pruitt dominating with strikes here. Pruitt putting on the heat here with some good ground and pound! Pruitt in mount throwing good strikes here, bouncing his opponent's head off the canvas.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Marquez regains half guard. Pruitt thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Marquez's head. Marquez tries to push off, looking to stand up, but Pruitt manages to move to mount!
Pruitt lands a big elbow. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Pruitt lands with some strikes. Gabriel Marquez has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Lon Pruitt is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Pruitt lands a heavy elbow.
And that's the end of the fight! Lon Pruitt showed his dominance in that final round. Well I reckon that's a shut out for Pruitt, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
