Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Neal Erickson! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Alberto Rodriguez! The judges for this bout are Francis DeMontford, Eliza Hachem and Donatello Bradman.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Rodriguez looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily. Erickson changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit. Erickson slaps away a takedown attempt from Rodriguez, before circling back to the center of the mat. Rodriguez keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Erickson lands a jab to the head.
Erickson smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button. Rodriguez takes a shot right to the bread basket. Rodriguez misses with a series of wild punches.

That's going to take a lot out of Alberto Rodriguez. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Erickson lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. He pushes Erickson off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds. Rodriguez shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Erickson as he avoids it easily. Rodriguez looks winded! Rodriguez misses with a looping left. Erickson tests Rodriguez's chin there with a solid looking shot. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Rodriguez on the wrong end of a nice jab. Erickson ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Rodriguez moves away. That kick from Erickson tenderised Rodriguez's leg. Rodriguez is trying to keep his angry face on. Rodriguez shoots in for a takedown but Erickson shows good takedown defense. Alberto Rodriguez seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Erickson ducks under a wild hook from Rodriguez. Erickson slips under a jab. Erickson appears to be looking for a counter takedown. Rodriguez throws a jab when Erickson was well out of range. Erickson is using his reach advantage well here, landing the more effective single shots from range. Rodriguez takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness. Rodriguez is really struggling to land any decent head shots against his taller opponent. Erickson just misses with a punch to the body.
A looping hook to the body misses from Erickson. Rodriguez does a little dance to reset his feet. It looks like Erickson has been trying to sharpen up his punching technique, as it looks crisper than last time we saw him. Erickson avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Erickson darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

It's a sloppy attempt though and Erickson jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position. Erickson throws an elbow that misses. Rodriguez uses the momentum to reverse the position. Rodriguez shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Erickson as he jumps to the side. Rodriguez is breathing heavily. Good exchange - Erickson coming out on top. Rodriguez's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Erickson connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Rodriguez scrambles back to his feet. Erickson lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin. Erickson is using his height advantage well here, landing a good percentage of his punches. Erickson closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard. Rodriguez is refusing to be controlled, as Erickson sits in half guard.

Neal Erickson is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach. Rodriguez decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Erickson, up you get! Rodriguez tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Erickson paws at him with a jab and circles away. That's four minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. Erickson lands a slapping body shot.

Erickson changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Rodriguez fights it off and pushes away nicely.

And that's the end of the fight! Neal Erickson showed his dominance in that final round. Well I reckon that's a shut out for Erickson, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
