Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 4 - 0, fighting out of New York, Lenny Summers! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Joe Dirt! The judges for this bout are Chad Campbell, Columbo Gatti and Reed Andrews.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Dirt looks for the body kick but Summers saw that one coming. Dirt looks to score with a combo but nothing lands. Dirt throws a body shot but no joy. Dirt throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Summers was covering up waiting for the punch and Dirt finishes the takedown easily into guard. Dirt stays in close to Summers's body and controls the position. Dirt's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Dirt cracks Summers with a solid left hand.
That's one minute gone in the round. Summers is trying to keep Dirt in close.
Dirt is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long. Summers utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound. Dirt thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Dirt gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent. Summers tries to clinch up.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena. Dirt avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Dirt cracks the inside of Summers's front leg. Summers looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily. Dirt has been working on his striking defense in training and it's paying off as Summers is landing a low percentage of strikes. Dirt closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard. Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Dirt in particular looking to stall. Dirt working over Summers with some ground and pound. Summers looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable. Dirt is controlling the pace.
That's three minutes gone in the round. More stalling from Dirt. Summers knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Dirt on the ground.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena. Dirt throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man. The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Dirt lands a nice short elbow. Dirt in half guard on the top. He's looking for a kimura... He's got it locked and he's managed to free his trapped foot. Summers tries to escape but it's on too tight and he has to tap! Great BJJ skills there from Dirt!
