Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Songswat Watana! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Ethan Falcon! The judges for this bout are Shigeki Sano, Sosuke Kotani and Ren Mimura.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Falcon moves into the clinch. Falcon can't break the clinch.
Falcon jumps guard and drags Watana to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back. Falcon looking for a sweep. Not yet Falcon, not yet. Falcon escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Watana gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Falcon trying to keep a closed guard but Watana is proving a slippery customer.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Falcon has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall. Falcon is trying to control the position but Watana postures up.
That's one minute gone in the round. Falcon looking to hit a scissor sweep but Watana is one step ahead there. Falcon is persisting with the attempt to improve his position. Falcon wants to stand and escape but Watana is having none of it. Watana has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Falcon is proving hard to escape from.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Falcon shoots in for a takedown but Watana shows good takedown defense. Watana closes the distance and clinches. Falcon drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Falcon tries to pull guard but Watana holds him up against the cage and eventually Falcon drops back down to his feet.
Songswat Watana has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ethan Falcon.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Some stalling of biblical proportions here from Watana. Watana manages to break the clinch.
Watana moves into the clinch. Watana escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Falcon has taken the fight to the clinch.
Watana utilising his Muay Thai to score with a knee to the body. Watana unloads a knee to the mid-section. Watana is stalling here. The referee will be looking to step in if he doesn't pick up the pace. Falcon pulls guard successfully.
Falcon has momentary wrist control but Watana slips an elbow through the middle. Watana controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Watana trying to stand up but can't free himself from Falcon's guard. Watana looking to pass the guard. Falcon is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move. Watana is looking to control Falcon's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Watana avoid being mounted? Watana tries to get to full guard but Falcon has control of the leg.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. Still in half guard, Falcon seems content to control. Watana trying to control here.
Falcon is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound. Falcon throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Falcon seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Watana does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
A close round but Ethan Falcon will probably get the nod. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.
Falcon changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Watana tries to avoid it but Falcon manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Watana to the ground. Watana escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. Watana clinches up against the cage. Watana avoiding damage as Falcon throws knees to the body.
Watana has clasped his hands together around Falcon's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done. Watana knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Falcon on the ground. Falcon pushes Watana away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Watana gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Falcon is looking for a sweep. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Falcon wants to control but Watana postures up. Falcon is looking for a sweep. Falcon is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Watana off and has taken his back! Falcon not allowing Watana to control his hands.
That's one minute gone in the round. Falcon trying to secure his dominant position for a moment - making sure Watana doesn't escape. Watana just trying to survive but Falcon is wriggling into a better position, looking to finish. Falcon tries to get the hooks in deep but Watana pushed the leg off. Falcon has both hooks in and is working for a choke. Watana is in real trouble here. Falcon gets an arm under the chin and tightens the submission attempt... is this the end? Yes, Watana is tapping out! Falcon wins by rear naked choke!
