PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Benjamin Snow (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jay Kulina (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Benjamin Snow!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Jay Kulina!
The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, Timothy Bukovac and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kulina misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

Snow gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Kulina to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Snow is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Snow wants to stand up but Kulina is controlling him.
Kulina is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Kulina tries to stand but Snow is controlling from the bottom.
Snow really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Kulina wants to control from the top but Snow keeps moving.
Snow wants to sweep here but Kulina controlling him for the moment.
Snow knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Kulina on the ground.

Kulina stops Snow from standing up.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Kulina accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Kulina is stalling in the full guard.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Kulina gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Snow tries to pull guard but Kulina won't allow it.

Snow has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Kulina clear over his head and slammed him to the mat!
Snow has his opponent trapped and is landing shots. Not a good position for Kulina.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Kulina tries to escape but Snow has the hooks in and won't let him break free.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Kulina wants to control his opponent's hands but Snow gets his hands free.
Kulina is keeping busy.
Snow somehow managing to miss with a strike from the back.
Snow not allowing Kulina to control his hands.
Snow is punishing Kulina with strikes - can he finish him?!
Kulina turns into Snow and is now in his guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Snow is looking to stand up but Kulina isn't so interested in that idea.

Kulina trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Kulina slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Kulina won't allow Snow to get back to his feet.
Kulina throws a big right hand that misses.
Kulina stopping the sweep attempt from Snow.
Kulina sitting in guard, not really doing much.
Snow keeping moving, preventing Kulina from controlling successfully.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Snow is looking to stand up but Kulina isn't so interested in that idea.
Kulina tries to stand but Snow is controlling from the bottom.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Kulina bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Snow bucks up and tries to throw Kulina off but instead Kulina has got his back!
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Snow is really stuck here.

Kulina patiently working for the choke. Which fighter will keep their nerve here?
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!


Snow tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Kulina paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Kulina closes the distance and clinches.
Snow misses with a short punch on the inside.

Snow jumps guard and drags Kulina to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
Kulina wants to pass the guard but Snow is keeping the position.

Kulina wanted to stand there but Snow had control of the position.

Kulina tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.
Snow wants to get back to his feet but Kulina drags him back down.
Kulina wants to lay and pray for a moment but Snow keeps working.
Snow is looking for a sweep.

Snow is pushing Kulina's head away, looking to escape. Kulina manages to hold on to the position though.
Snow is looking to regain half guard here but Kulina keeps moving and retains side control.
Snow wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!
Jay Kulina has got the better of the ground game so far.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Snow is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Kulina is looking to advance position but Snow won't allow it.
Snow is staying active underneath Kulina, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Kulina tries to stand but his hand is stuck under Snow.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Kulina misses with the combination.
Snow swung with a counter punch to the body but it didn't connect.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Jay Kulina showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!



Kulina throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Snow tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Kulina is in Snow's guard.
Kulina tries to stand but Snow is controlling from the bottom.
Snow looking to hit a scissor sweep but Kulina is one step ahead there.
Snow wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Kulina manages to pass to side control.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Snow kicks Kulina off and gets back to his feet.

Kulina closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Snow is trying to control but can't.
Snow keeps control of the position for the meantime.
Kulina is pressing down on Snow's thigh, looking to free his foot. Snow is holding on for now.
Snow is not content to let Kulina control the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Snow makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work!

Kulina pushes Snow up against the cage in a clinch.
Kulina avoiding damage as Snow throws knees to the body.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Snow has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Kulina regains guard immediately.

Snow drops back, looking for a kneebar! Kulina looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Kulina looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Kulina!

Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Kulina is trying to get an arm triangle but Snow is defending well.
Snow pushes Kulina away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Kulina gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.

Kulina is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Snow has escaped the position, nice work there.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Snow tries to buck Kulina off but Kulina is having none of it.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Snow tries to control but Kulina manages to take his back.
Kulina is hanging on to Snow's back as he tries to escape.
Snow is keeping busy.
Snow wants to get back to his feet.

Kulina has his arm under Snow's chin here. Game over son! Kulina squeezes tightly and Snow is forced to tap out!
