Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 4 - 0, fighting out of New York, Earnest Hebert! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Gabe Tate! The judges for this bout are Reed Andrews, Columbo Gatti and Russell Pearce.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Hebert clinches up with Tate and pushes him back against the cage. Hebert is stalling here. The referee will be looking to step in if he doesn't pick up the pace. Hebert is trying to slow down the pace in the clinch, to catch his breath. Hebert dictating the pace here, as the fighters clinch against the cage. Hebert tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Tate smiles and moves away.
Tate closes the distance and pushes Hebert back into the cage. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Tate has picked Hebert up - he's going for a ride! Tate dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard. Hebert is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Tate lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt. Tate has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Tate working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
That's one minute gone in the round. Hebert looking for submissions from an awkward position here. Hebert is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Tate pulls his head out easily. Tate working over Hebert with some ground and pound. Hebert looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.
It looks like Earnest Hebert has been cut. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Hebert manages to get to full guard.
Hebert lands a couple of decent looking body shots there.
Tate wants to pass the guard but Hebert is keeping the position. Tate lands a couple of elbows.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Tate postures up and lands a big shot to Hebert's brow.
Hebert is rocked! Tate loads up on a big left hand. Hebert felt that one! He's just covering up now, not defending himself intelligently - Tate looks towards the ref and unloads with 3 more big shots and the ref has no choice but to stop the fight! Hebert can't hide his disappointment, as Tate celebrates the victory.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:26 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Gabe Tate! Gabe Tate seemed lost for words in his post fight interview but he remembered to thank his fans and directed everyone to his website.
