The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Monsoon defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Johnson.
Johnson waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Monsoon.
Monsoon cracks Johnson with an open hand slap.

Johnson drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Monsoon knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Johnson on the ground.
Monsoon is trying to get back to half guard.

Johnson working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Monsoon defending against the ground and pound.

Johnson wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Monsoon, who protects the arm well.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Monsoon controls the position for a moment.
Johnson is looking to take a break and control but Monsoon is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Johnson is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Monsoon is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Monsoon is trying to control Johnson's posture but Johnson avoids it.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Monsoon is not content to let Johnson control the position.

Johnson wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Monsoon, who protects the arm well.
Monsoon wants to control but Johnson postures up.

Johnson has worked his way into a potential kimura here. Monsoon is trying to get out of the position but his squirming has just got him deeper into trouble. Johnson yanks on the arm and Monsoon is forced to tap due to a very painful looking submission! Nice work by Johnson.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:59 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Alec Johnson!
A relieved looking Alec Johnson thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
