The judges for this bout are Yves DeLean, Dillan Fox and Robert Douchet.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Tanaka changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Berg looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Berg throws Tanaka to one side and escapes!
Berg throws a head kick but Tanaka moves out of range.
Tanaka closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Berg quickly recovers to half guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Tanaka is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Tanaka is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Berg is just riding it out for now. Tanaka eventually gives up the hold.
Berg wants to get back to full guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Berg trying to hold on to Tanaka's head to control him but Tanaka postures up.
Berg pushes Tanaka off looking to stand but Tanaka dives back in and keeps control.
Tanaka is working for a kimura but Berg is defending it quite comfortably.
That's one minute gone in the round.
Tanaka is looking to advance position but Berg won't allow it.
Tanaka is trying for a kimura here. Berg looks like he's in a lot of pain... and he's tapping out! Tanaka wins by kimura!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:40 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Ryo Tanaka!
