PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Monroe Melton (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jon Jones (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jones has chosen One Direction - History as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of London, Monroe Melton!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Jon Jones!
The judges for this bout are Chris Edwards, Sam Margolis and Richard Clark.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jones wants to clinch up but Melton keeps it at a distance.

Jones rushes Melton and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Jones lands with a left to the head.
Jones blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.

Jones breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Jones fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Melton, pushing him back against the cage.
Melton taking a break, stalling in the clinch.
Jones tries to throw a body punch but Melton avoids it by throwing Jones back against the cage.

Jones pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

The fighters are pressed against the cage, as the pace of the fight slows.
Melton seems to have come into the fight with the intention of avoiding any damage in the clinch, rather than actually showing any aggression.

A knee to the head by Jones.


It looks like Monroe Melton has been cut.
Melton tries for a takedown. No joy.
Jones is working Melton over against the cage.

Jones's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Jones throws an overhand right from the outside, which connects and sends Melton stumbling backwards into the cage! Melton bounces back off the cage towards Jones, who cracks him with a two punch combination that drops him to his knees! Jones lands two more shots before the referee has chance to intervene - what a finish! Jones celebrates with his corner as the crowd cheer loudly.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:33 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Punches). Jon Jones!
A less than humble Jon Jones misjudged his post fight interview somewhat and came across a little too arrogant whilst trying to hype up his own abilities.
