Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Lance Carter (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and James Gattis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). James Gattis is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Lance Carter!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, James Gattis!
The judges for this bout are Jeff Smith, Chris Saunders and Paul Gruel.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gattis misses with a leg kick
and Carter counters with a nice low kick that buckles Gattis's knee momentarily.
Carter lands with a good body shot.
Gattis tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Carter manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

Gattis closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Carter did well to prevent Gattis getting side control.
Carter pushes Gattis off but Gattis dives into side control.
Gattis in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows.
The referee tells the fighters to keep busy.
It looks like Gattis might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
Gattis has control of an arm but Carter manages to advance to Gattis's back!
This has been an exciting period of action!
Gattis wants to escape the position.

Gattis manages to stand up with Carter still on his back. Eventually Carter drops to his feet and we're back in the standing position.
Carter misses with a double jab

and Gattis counters with a takedown into side control.

Gattis tries for a kimura but Carter is defending well.
Carter tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Gattis wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Gattis controls the position.
Carter dodges the ground and pound from Gattis.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Gattis stands up and beckons Carter to his feet.
Carter fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Carter lands a jab to the nose.
Carter tries to bum rush Gattis with a series of wild strikes but Gattis uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Carter on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot.

Gattis stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Carter.
Gattis tries to land a front kick but Carter steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
Carter throws a head kick but Gattis moves out of range.
Carter lands with a good body shot.

and Gattis counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Gattis.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
A head kick misses from Gattis.
Lance Carter seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Carter throws a chopping leg kick but Gattis manages to avoid taking any serious damage.
Left hook, right uppercut from Carter.
Carter fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
No joy there for Gattis, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Gattis avoids a punch combination nicely.
Carter seems to be moving with more speed, compared to his last bout. He must have been working on that in the gym.

Gattis fails to land with a series of punches.
Gattis misses with a body shot
and Carter counters with a nice uppercut.
Gattis avoids the head kick by Carter.
A countering left hand to the body from Gattis misses.
Carter lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Gattis circles away quickly and effectively.
Gattis tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Carter was well out of range. Poor timing from Gattis.
No joy there for Carter, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Gattis changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Gattis tries for a takedown but Carter sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Gattis pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Gattis is looking to clinch.

Carter throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Gattis throws a counter combo.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Lance Carter will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

and Gattis holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Carter tries to land knees in the clinch but Gattis avoids the damage to the body.

Gattis avoids a lazy jab quite easily.

Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Carter.
Gattis looks to land a body kick but Carter moved away.
It looked like Carter was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit.
A head kick misses from Carter.
Gattis lets it all go there with a big combo counter but none of the punches connected.
Gattis throws a low kick but his opponent is out of range.
Carter lands a high kick!
The fight stays on the outside here - Gattis looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Both fighters circling a little - Gattis finishes the exchange with a kick to the body.
Gattis uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Carter.
Gattis scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.

Gattis moves into the clinch.
Carter is trying to maintain a safe position but Gattis gets an underhook and turns Carter into the cage.

Carter blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.

Gattis pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Gattis tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Gattis tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Carter manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

Gattis shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Carter moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

Gattis stands and steps away. Carter gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Carter lands a nice shot that snaps Gattis's head back.
The fighters circling - Carter throws out the jab but it was never going to land.

Carter connects with a body shot that sends Gattis's belly button to the back.

Gattis tries to clinch but Carter is having none of it.

That was a close second round but I would say that Lance Carter will probably get the nod.

Gattis shoots in for a double leg but Carter sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

Carter lands with a hook. Gattis tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.

Carter stuffs the takedown.

Carter lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.
Carter bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Gattis's head.

Carter fires out a quick counter leg kick but Gattis just manages to avoid it.

Gattis is trying to drag Carter to the mat but Carter just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

Carter breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
