Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Sean Cox! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Fred Jackson! The judges for this bout are Jeff Smith, Colin Fray and Paul Gruel.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Cox shoots in for a double leg but Jackson sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy. A head kick by Cox misses and Jackson cracks him with a counter punch right on the button. Cox changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Jackson tries to avoid it but Cox manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Jackson to the ground. Jackson escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. Cox is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Jackson's half guard. Cox wants to pass to mount but Jackson is defending the position. Jackson tries to roll over but Cox keeps him under control. Cox is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Jackson defends it well. Jackson is doing well to avoid being mounted. He's controlling the position at the moment. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Cox passes to side control.
That's one minute gone in the round. Cox trying to control the position but Jackson is working away. Cox goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Jackson has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Cox but great work by Jackson. Jackson wants to control but Cox is keeping him busy. Jackson tries to stand but Cox is controlling his head. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Cox is looking for a sweep. Jackson sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Cox is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.
Jackson thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead. Jackson moves into full mount!
That's two minutes gone in the round. Jackson raining down shots from the mount! Jackson looking to control but Cox is working nicely, looking to advance position himself. Cox looks to be in better condition than last time we saw him fight. Obviously he's been working hard on his cardio. Jackson thuds his fist into the canvas! Oooouch!
Cox tries to hold on but Jackson pushes him away. Cox blocking the ground and pound. Jackson scores with a couple of good head shots there.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Jackson thuds his fist into the canvas! Oooouch!
That's three minutes gone in the round. Jackson goes for an armbar but Cox turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Cox. Jackson has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall. Cox is looking to advance position but Jackson has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount! Jackson wants to control the action but instead Cox gets a body lock and reverses into Jackson's guard! Nice work! Cox won't allow Jackson to sweep him here.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Jackson wants to stand and escape but Cox is having none of it. Cox forces his way into half guard. Cox is keen to just control but Jackson is a slippery customer. Cox wants to advance to full mount but Jackson doesn't think that's going to happen and regains full guard instead. Cox tries to free his leg and advance position but Jackson is retaining full guard. Cox trying to pass the guard. He's being very persistent here but Jackson manages to land a sweep and now he's on top! Jackson trying to control the position from guard on top but Cox is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Jackson trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat. Cox keeping full guard, as Jackson tries to pass. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Fred Jackson dominated that round. That's time! Cox's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.
Jackson lands a glancing blow to the side of Cox's head. Jackson jabs Cox to the body, keeping him at a distance. Jackson scores with a nice head shot. Cox shoots for a double leg takedown but Jackson sprawls well. He's pushed Cox's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. Jackson lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.
Cox is rocked! Jackson connects with a nice cross there... Cox is looking wobbly and Jackson recognises it - he's rushed in and lands two more brutal shots that send Cox to the canvas, out cold! A brutal finish to the fight - Jackson jumps onto the cage to celebrate with the crowd!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:26 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punches). Fred Jackson! Fred Jackson decided to hype himself up post fight. It was going well but he went on about it a bit too long and the crowd turned on him a little.
