PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Renji Abarai (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Anderson Aldo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Abarai kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Before I Forget. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Renji Abarai!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Anderson Aldo!
The judges for this bout are Hirohito Nitta, Yukihiro Yamamoto and Taro Takaoka.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Aldo fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Abarai has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.
A jab from Aldo misses.
Aldo feints and then cracks Abarai's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Abarai down.
Abarai shoots in for a takedown but Aldo shows good takedown defense.

Abarai shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Aldo sprawls well. Aldo wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Abarai gets slowly back to his feet.

Aldo is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Abarai is defending well for now.

enabling Aldo to counter with a crisp jab.

Abarai tries to bum rush Aldo with a series of wild strikes but Aldo uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Aldo tries to land a leg kick but Abarai saw it coming and moves away.
Abarai looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Aldo scores with a jab.
Aldo throws a hook to the side of Abarai's head but Abarai sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Abarai is looking to counter the offense by Aldo and move into the clinch.
Aldo stuffs the takedown.
Aldo tries to score with a low kick but Abarai moves his leg out of the way.
Abarai walks into a stiff left hand from Aldo.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Aldo swings for the body but Abarai moves out of range.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Aldo tries to land a front kick but Abarai steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
Aldo stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Aldo wants it to stay on the feet.

Aldo lands a nice shot to the body.
Abarai tries to check a leg kick but that clearly hurt him.

Aldo leaves Abarai with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Abarai tries to score a power double leg takedown but Aldo sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Abarai somewhat.

Abarai uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Aldo.

Abarai has his takedown stuffed
and Aldo counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Aldo stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.
Abarai tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Aldo defends well and Abarai ends up having to push Aldo into the ropes where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Aldo has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Abarai slips a jab from Aldo.

Abarai shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Aldo as he jumps to the side.
Aldo bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Abarai's head backwards.

Abarai looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Aldo is fending him off so far but Abarai persists. Nope, Aldo circles away and we're back to standing.
Aldo thuds his right hand into Abarai's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.

Abarai seemed to be looking to counter by closing the distance.
Good leg kick by Aldo there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
Abarai looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple.
Oh Abarai is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Anderson Aldo is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Aldo tries to work over Abarai's front leg with a kick but Abarai checks it.
Abarai wants to take advantage of his opponent's missed offense by moving into the clinch.
Abarai tries to clinch up
and Aldo counters with a big right hand! Oh Abarai is in trouble here! Aldo follows up with more strikes and that's it! The ref has stopped it!
