Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Esdag Cepa Urmus! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, kiboko ko! The judges for this bout are Emerson Jorge, Thiago Cunha and Matheus Silva.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Cepa Urmus doesn't manage to clinch there - ko circles away.
ko loads up on a big right hand but Cepa Urmus slips the punch. ko takes one on the chin but keeps coming.
It looks like kiboko ko has been cut. Cepa Urmus has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Cepa Urmus there as he acknowledges the shot. Cepa Urmus moves into the clinch successfully.
ko tries to score a body lock takedown but Cepa Urmus shows good agility there to stay on his feet. Cepa Urmus breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Cepa Urmus moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination.
ko is rocked! ko closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth. ko is still in real trouble! Can Cepa Urmus finish him? ko wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Cepa Urmus, who protects the arm well. Cepa Urmus is trying to escape and get back to his feet. ko swings around for an armbar but Cepa Urmus sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into ko's guard. ko seems to have recovered his senses. Cepa Urmus knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for ko on the ground. ko looking for a guillotine here but Cepa Urmus defends easily.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! ko throws his legs up looking for a submission but Cepa Urmus uses it to pass to side control.
That's one minute gone in the round. Cepa Urmus wants to stand but ko has his arm trapped. ko gets back to half guard. ko wants to improve his position but Cepa Urmus is controlling well.
ko looks gassed! ko is persisting with the attempt to improve his position. Cepa Urmus tries to stand but his hand is stuck under ko. ko is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Cepa Urmus's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Cepa Urmus's back! Cepa Urmus trying to control but not successfully. ko is looking to finish the fight by rear naked choke. Cepa Urmus knows exactly what he's got planned though, so he's defending well. Maybe a few strikes would soften Cepa Urmus for a finish.
That's two minutes gone in the round. ko working for a choke but Cepa Urmus is defending well. Cepa Urmus can't escape the position.
ko looking for the RNC. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! ko has the rear naked choke here! This is very bad for Cepa Urmus! Can he survive? No! He's out! ko gets to his feet and celebrates with his cornermen. He looks absolutely delighted. In the post fight interviews he takes time to thank his parents and everyone who has believed in him from the start. How sweet.
