PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Franz Sporck (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and AJ Wilder (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The judges for this bout are Ben Hemmingworth, Summer Carpenter and Donatello Bradman.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Wilder tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Sporck defends well and Wilder ends up having to push Sporck into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Sporck falls off balance throwing a combination
and Wilder counters with a straight punch to the midsection.
Wilder shoots in for a takedown but Sporck shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Wilder looks to score with a jab to the body but Sporck is just out of range.
Wilder misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Franz Sporck has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of AJ Wilder.
Wilder tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Sporck manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Sporck shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Wilder defends it nicely.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Sporck throws a quick head kick that skims the top of Wilder's head.
Sporck throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Wilder's waist but Wilder gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Sporck off to one side.
Wilder drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Sporck defends it well.
Sporck tries a head kick but it misses.
Wilder digs a good hook to Sporck's body.
Sporck is breathing heavily.
Wilder pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
A short body shot lands from Wilder as the two fighters clinch.
Wilder tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Sporck avoids it.
Sporck tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Sporck is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.

Wilder has hold of one of Sporck's legs. Sporck is fighting the takedown attempt but Wilder gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.
Wilder is pushing down on Sporck's leg trying to pass to half guard. Sporck is fighting to maintain full guard but Wilder has managed to sneak the leg through.

Wilder is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Sporck defends it well.

Wilder stands up out of the half guard.

Wilder feints and as Sporck raises his hands in defense, Wilder changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Wilder is in close to Sporck's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Wilder is stalling in the full guard.
Wilder in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.

Sporck has a closed guard, preventing Wilder from standing up.

Sporck escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Wilder gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Wilder stands up over Sporck, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Sporck knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Wilder on the ground.
Wilder stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Sporck swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Wilder gets to his feet. Sporck looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Wilder tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Sporck defends well and Wilder ends up having to push Sporck into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Wilder throws a leg kick
and Sporck counters with an inside leg kick.

Wilder drives through with a takedown into Sporck's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.

Wilder working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

Wilder stands up from Sporck's guard - Wilder perhaps looking for a knockout.
Wilder tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Sporck paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Sporck changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Wilder tries to avoid it but Sporck manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Wilder to the ground. Wilder escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Wilder steps in looking to clinch after the strikes miss from Sporck.

Sporck closes the distance and pushes Wilder back into the cage.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.

Wilder tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Sporck swivels and escapes.

Sporck appears to be looking for a counter takedown.
Wilder digs a good body shot into Sporck's ribs.

Wilder feints and as Sporck raises his hands in defense, Wilder changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Wilder has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Sporck is proving hard to escape from.

Wilder stands up from the dominant position, so we're back on the feet.
No luck for Sporck with that takedown attempt.
Wilder swings away with a counter right hand but no contact made.
Sporck shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Wilder defends it nicely.

Sporck forces Wilder back against the cage and clinches.
Sporck wants to break the clinch but can't.
Sporck jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Wilder walks away with a smile on his face. Sporck gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Franz Sporck. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Wilder misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Sporck connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.
Sporck takes a swing at Wilder's ribcage but misses.
Wilder dives in for a single leg takedown but Sporck sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Sporck tries to bum rush Wilder with a series of wild strikes but Wilder uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Wilder walks forward, straight into a front kick from Sporck.
Sporck throws a nice head kick!

Wilder has closed the distance and engaged Sporck in a clinch.
Sporck is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Wilder gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.

Wilder gets control of Sporck's arms and successfully pulls guard. Wilder will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
Sporck wants to pass the guard but Wilder is keeping the position.

Sporck tries to stand but Wilder is controlling from the bottom.
Wilder keeping moving, preventing Sporck from controlling successfully.
Wilder looking to hit a scissor sweep but Sporck is one step ahead there.
Sporck has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Wilder seems keen to control Sporck's posture.

Wilder had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Sporck defends it easily.

AJ Wilder showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

No joy there for Sporck, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Wilder was about to counter that last move with a leg kick but changes his mind.

Wilder gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Sporck stops a takedown attempt from Wilder.
Sporck wants a takedown.
Wilder wants to take the fight to the mat but Sporck manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Wilder looking to try and escape his hips here, looking for a submission. It looks like he's going for a triangle but Sporck is defending well. Wilder quickly switches to an armbar and extends the arm! Sporck has no choice but to tap, to a very quick submission! Wow, that was lightning fast! Wilder celebrates on the cage, with the crowd.
