Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
8 - 15 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Desean Bryant! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
11 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Chris Griffin! The judges for this bout are David Schapiro, John Kavanagh and John Roberts.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Nice defenses there by Bryant. No luck for Bryant with that takedown attempt. Bryant shoots in but no luck this time. Bryant tries a switch kick but it misses it's target. Bryant shoots and misses and Griffin connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Desean Bryant. That's going to take a lot out of him. Bryant pushes Griffin up against the cage in a clinch. Griffin doesn't land with the attempted body shot.
Bryant has clasped his hands together around Griffin's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done. Griffin is pushing Bryant's head away, looking to escape. Bryant manages to hold on to the position though. Griffin felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it. Griffin is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first.
That's one minute gone in the round. Bryant tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Bryant has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought! Griffin tries to escape but Bryant is in control. Bryant working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it. Griffin is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here. Griffin prevents Bryant from improving position. Bryant looking to punish the body of his opponent here but Griffin is avoiding damage well.
Griffin is pushing Bryant's head away, looking to escape. Bryant manages to hold on to the position though.
That's two minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. Bryant tries for a kimura but Griffin is defending well. Sloppy strikes there by Bryant. Griffin is pushing Bryant's head away, looking to escape. Bryant manages to hold on to the position though. Bryant throwing strikes but missing, from side control. Bryant thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead. Griffin is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here. Bryant with the ground and pound but Griffin regains half guard under the barage of strikes. Griffin is defending against the submission attempts here by Bryant.
Griffin is trying to stand back up but Bryant is controlling him
That's three minutes gone in the round. Griffin has managed to escape just enough to sneak back to his feet but Bryant is on him like a limpet, forcing Griffin back against the cage. Bryant manages to pull guard.
Griffin decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Bryant, up you get! Griffin scores with the left hand. Bryant knows he should have avoided that one. Bryant with a poor takedown and Griffin counters with a straight right hand. Griffin circles away from the clinch attempt.
Bryant doesn't succeed with the takedown letting Griffin counter with a right hand.
Bryant is rocked! Bryant looks up at the clock. Bad move! Griffin lands a right hand from hell, dropping Bryant. Griffin pounces and finishes the fight with a flurry of punches and elbows.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:54 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Chris Griffin! Chris Griffin decided to hype himself up post fight. It was going well but he went on about it a bit too long and the crowd turned on him a little.
