PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Francesco Jordan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ray Carter (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ray Carter has the power to score a knockout today if he connects clean with Francesco Jordan's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Francesco Jordan!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Ray Carter!
The judges for this bout are Marco Blurström, Anni Minnemäki and Ben Zyskovitsi.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Carter moves into the clinch successfully.
Jordan really is a fat lump.
Jordan pushes Carter back against the cage and lands a hook to the side of the head.
Carter tries to break free but Jordan pushes him back against the cage.
Jordan keeps control of Carter as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.

Carter successfully pulls guard.
Jordan throwing strikes from guard but Carter blocks nicely.
Jordan is fighting to break Carter's control of his arms but Carter is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Carter working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Jordan doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Jordan manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Carter seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
Jordan might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Jordan is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Carter is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Carter has escaped and now he's on top!

Jordan wants to get back to his feet but Carter passes into half guard.
Carter thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Jordan is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Carter stalling.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Carter not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.

Carter is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Carter in particular looking to stall.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Jordan flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.
Jordan wants to get back to his feet.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Jordan keeping control of the leg, stopping his opponent passing to mount.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Carter shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Jordan has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Carter is working away from the top position though.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Carter decides to return to a standing position.

Carter closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Jordan did well to prevent Carter getting side control.

Carter is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Jordan is just riding it out for now. Carter eventually gives up the hold.

Carter is working for a kimura but Jordan is defending it quite comfortably.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.



Carter closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Jordan did well to prevent Carter getting side control.

Carter is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Jordan has managed to free his arm - good work.
Carter not landing any meaningful shots this time.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Carter stands up out of the half guard.

Jordan gets caught flat footed, as Carter shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Carter controls from within his opponent's guard.
Jordan looking for a sweep. Not yet Jordan, not yet.
Carter's corner is telling him to maintain position.

Carter stands and steps away. Jordan gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

Carter moves into the clinch successfully.
The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Carter takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life.
Jordan fails to land with a short punch on the inside.
Jordan swings away with an uppercut that misses.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Carter is defending well against a takedown attempt.
Carter avoiding damage as Jordan throws knees to the body.
Carter throws a knee to the head but misses.

Carter tightens his grip and picks Jordan up, before dumping him to the ground. Jordan manages to land in guard.
Carter has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Carter sitting in guard here, content to control.
Jordan controls Carter momentarily but Carter frees himself.
Jordan wants to stand but Carter is controlling the position.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Carter showing good wrestling skills to control the position.
Jordan is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Carter is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

Carter gets to his feet - Jordan follows without any prompting.

Carter drives through with a takedown into Jordan's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.

Jordan wriggles free and stands up.

Carter closes the distance and pushes Jordan back into the cage.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Carter is looking to break free of the clinch but Jordan has double underhooks.

Carter has Jordan pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Carter pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Jordan tumbling to the mat - Carter dives into Jordan's guard.
Carter is standing up over Jordan. Jordan looks to escape but Carter dives into side control.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Carter stands up and we're back to a striking position.

Carter fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Jordan to the ground. Carter is now in Jordan's guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ray Carter showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! This is the final round!



Carter shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Jordan is trying to defend but Carter finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

Jordan pushes Carter off and gets back to his feet.
Jordan changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Carter tries to avoid it but Jordan manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Carter to the ground. Carter escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
As Jordan backs off Carter throws a huge counter combo but Jordan manages to avoid it all.

Carter closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Jordan to the mat! Jordan manages to get full guard.
Jordan thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Carter decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Jordan, up you get!

Carter is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Jordan's half guard.
Jordan wants to control but Carter is keeping busy.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Carter trying to pass the guard but Jordan defending well.
Jordan wants to get back to his feet.

Jordan is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Carter slows the pace down in half guard.
Let's hope that Carter has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Carter decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Carter fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Jordan to the ground. Carter is now in Jordan's guard.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Carter gets to his feet - Jordan follows without any prompting.
Francesco Jordan is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Carter throws a sloppy head kick and Jordan moves out of range easily.

Carter shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Carter showed some decent athleticism there.
Jordan is looking to improve his position.
Jordan trying to control here.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Carter takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

Carter is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Jordan is trying to stand.

Jordan looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.
Carter wants to free his trapped foot but Jordan is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Carter controlling the action here.
Jordan wants to improve his position but Carter is controlling well.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Jordan is looking to escape.
Jordan tries to get to full guard but Carter has control of the leg.
Jordan misses with some strikes from the bottom.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.

Carter is looking for a kimura here.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Well, if Carter is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

And that's the end of the fight!
Ray Carter comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Carter has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
