Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Curtis Rodriquez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Alexander Gustafsson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Curtis Rodriquez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Alexander Gustafsson!
The judges for this bout are Topper Green, John Mangel and Francis DeMontford.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Gustafsson gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Rodriquez to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Gustafsson is trying to keep Rodriquez in close.
Rodriquez works over Gustafsson with some ground and pound from guard.
Rodriquez lands a couple of decent looking shots.

Rodriquez is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Gustafsson doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Rodriquez.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Rodriquez connects with a nice short shot to Gustafsson's temple.

Rodriquez seems to be looking for submissions.
Rodriquez takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

Rodriquez has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Rodriquez seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
Gustafsson regains full guard. Nicely done.

Gustafsson misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Rodriquez tries to counter by moving into the clinch but Gustafsson manages to circle out of the way.

Gustafsson is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Rodriquez is just riding it out for now. Gustafsson eventually gives up the hold.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Gustafsson won't allow Rodriquez to sweep him here.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Rodriquez holds on and takes a little breather.

Rodriquez is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Gustafsson is aware though and is defending well.

As Gustafsson looks to move away, Rodriquez throws a big counter combo but Gustafsson just gets out of the way.
Rodriquez shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Gustafsson as he avoids it easily.

Gustafsson moves in looking to clinch but Rodriquez pushes him off.
Gustafsson looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Rodriquez is fending him off so far but Gustafsson persists. Nope, Rodriquez circles away and we're back to standing.

The fight moves into the clinch position.

Gustafsson is trying to trip Rodriquez. He has hold of a leg but Rodriquez is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Gustafsson persists though and gets the takedown into guard.

Gustafsson wants to get up but he can't break Rodriquez's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Alexander Gustafsson showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

As Gustafsson looks to move away, Rodriquez throws a big counter combo but Gustafsson just gets out of the way.

Rodriquez forces Gustafsson back against the cage and clinches.
Rodriquez lands a nice elbow from the clinch.
Rodriquez manages to get underhooks and slows down the pace for a moment.
Rodriquez tries to score a body lock takedown but Gustafsson shows good agility there to stay on his feet.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Gustafsson can do anything to dispel that myth.
