Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Anthony Rocca!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jason Matthews!
The judges for this bout are John Mangel, Skip Squint and Francis DeMontford.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Matthews shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Rocca napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Rocca prevents Matthews from improving position.
Rocca is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Matthews off and has taken his back!

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Rocca is looking for the choke from the back position but Matthews is controlling his hands well.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Rocca trying desperately to keep hold of the dominant position.

Let's hope that Matthews has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
Matthews has his hands over his head blocking the strikes from Rocca.
You can see the frustration on Matthews's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Rocca is persistently looking for the submission but Matthews is defending it well.
Matthews wants to get back to his feet.
Rocca lands with a big left hand that may well have hurt his opponent. Can Matthews hold on?!
Rocca gets his hands free as Matthews looks to control.
Rocca tries to keep control of the position but Matthews is staying busy.

Matthews is trying to shake Rocca off. He's managed it and has hopped back to his feet! Rocca won't be happy about giving up the dominant position.

Matthews tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.
Rocca finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.

and Matthews counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.

Rocca tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Matthews manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Matthews stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Matthews wants it to stay on the feet.

A telegraphed takedown attempt from Rocca is defended easily by Matthews.

Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Matthews in particular looking to stall.

Matthews wants to work for an arm triangle but Rocca is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Matthews looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.

Rocca tries to roll over but Matthews keeps him under control.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Matthews connects with a nice short shot to Rocca's temple.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Matthews has Rocca pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Matthews pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Rocca tumbling to the mat - Matthews dives into Rocca's guard.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Rocca can't keep his opponent in guard - Matthews advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Still in half guard, Matthews seems content to control.
Matthews winds up and cracks Rocca with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Rocca is looking to improve his position.

Rocca gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Matthews to score an easy takedown into full guard.

Jason Matthews has got the better of the ground game so far.
Matthews lands a couple of decent looking shots.

Rocca might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Matthews stands up over Rocca, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Matthews not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Matthews has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Matthews slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Matthews tries to free his leg and advance position but Rocca is retaining full guard.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Jason Matthews is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Rocca has momentary wrist control but Matthews slips an elbow through the middle.

Jason Matthews comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Matthews has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
