PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Remus Black (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Javi Castillejo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Remus Black had a look across the cage there at his opponent. He definitely means business

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Remus Black!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Javi Castillejo!
The judges for this bout are Paul Aken, Radbod Blank and Nard Betker.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Black gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Castillejo looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!
Black prevents the takedown attempt.
Black has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Castillejo after a bit of a struggle.

Castillejo has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Black uses from the top position.
Black seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Black throwing strikes from guard but Castillejo blocks nicely.
Black trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Black stays in close to Castillejo's body and controls the position.

It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Black lands with a good body shot.
Black lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Black.


It looks like Javi Castillejo has been cut.

Black darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Black is looking to advance position but Castillejo won't allow it.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Black perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Black has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Black's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Black moves into the clinch.
Black wants a takedown but no success here.

Black gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Castillejo regains guard.
Black controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.

Black sitting in guard, not really doing much.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Black pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Castillejo is keeping the position for now.
Black working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.



Black rushes Castillejo and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Black has hold of one of Castillejo's legs. Castillejo is fighting the takedown attempt but Black gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.

Black looking to sit in guard and control but Castillejo gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.


Black pushes Castillejo off and scrambles back to his feet.
Castillejo moves to clinch but Black breaks away

and Black counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Castillejo is breathing heavily.
Black shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Castillejo eats them both and turns towards Black to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.
Castillejo's coach down at Club Pain (Sparring & Vending) was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Castillejo's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight.
Javi Castillejo seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Black lands a lovely overhand right.

Black drives through with a takedown into Castillejo's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.


Castillejo is rocked!
Black wants to pass the guard but Castillejo is keeping the position.
Castillejo is still in real trouble! Can Black finish him?
Black showing good wrestling skills to control the position.
Castillejo seems to have recovered his senses.
Black has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Black looking to pass the guard.
Black pushes down on Castillejo's leg and manages to get into half guard.

Black wants to work for an arm triangle but Castillejo is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Black is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Castillejo can do to turn this around?

Black is looking for a kimura but Castillejo is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Black to get the leverage.
Black perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Black has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Castillejo wants to control but Black is having none of it.
Black takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Remus Black overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Black is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Castillejo to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Castillejo shrugs it off.

Black goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Castillejo turns into him and now he's in Black's guard.

Black keeping moving, preventing Castillejo from controlling successfully.
Black pulls Castillejo in close to prevent any damage.
Castillejo won't allow Black to sweep him here.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The cut man is working on Javi Castillejo's cut.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

Castillejo tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Black swivels and escapes.
Black looks to land a combination but Castillejo avoids it well.
Black tries to clinch but Castillejo moves out of range.
Castillejo is sent reeling backwards by a solid uppercut. He barely regains his balance and Black moves in for the kill throwing a continuous barrage of punches that force the ref to step in.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:27 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Remus Black!
