The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Winters tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but de la Madrugada paws at him with a jab and circles away. de la Madrugada fails with a takedown attempt from distance. Winters tries to close the distance and clinch but de la Madrugada swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. Winters tries to clinch up. de la Madrugada fails in his attempt to clinch. Winters forces de la Madrugada back against the cage and clinches. Winters misses with a knee to the head. de la Madrugada misses with some punches.
de la Madrugada blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning. de la Madrugada pulls guard effortlessly. Winters avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Winters wants to stand up but de la Madrugada is controlling the position.
de la Madrugada is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Winters's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Winters's back!
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena. Winters has the hand control, trying to stop the rear naked choke. Winters preventing the rear naked choke attempt from de la Madrugada. Winters is trying to stand back up. de la Madrugada throws a big right hand but he misses and hits the mat. Ouch.
That's three minutes gone in the round. de la Madrugada is working really hard to secure the rear naked choke. Winters defends successfully for a significant amount of time. Both fighters are looking very determined. de la Madrugada tightening his grip on Winters, looking for the choke. de la Madrugada looks gassed! The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. de la Madrugada throwing sloppy strikes.
That's four minutes gone in the round. A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd. Winters has the hand control, trying to stop the rear naked choke. de la Madrugada is working for a rear naked choke. Winters is not defending it well and de la Madrugada has tightened it up quickly! This could be all over! Winters refuses to tap and goes to sleep, forcing the referee to intervene. A little trickle of blood came out of Winters's nose as his head slumped to the floor. That is naaaasty!
