Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Ronny Hewitt! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Nate Diaz! The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, Don Winkell and Timothy Bukovac.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Diaz looks to clinch and Hewitt counters with a series of strikes. Diaz will be more careful next time no doubt. Diaz tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Hewitt manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat. Diaz drops his hands momentarily and Hewitt takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head. Diaz takes a head kick and keeps coming.
Hewitt scores with a head kick. Diaz tried to block it but didn't get his arm up in time. Diaz tries to clinch but Hewitt moves out of range. A punch combination from Diaz misses. Hewitt tries to counter by moving into the clinch but Diaz manages to circle out of the way. Diaz's corner calls for a 1, 2 combination and Diaz duly obliges.
It looks like Ronny Hewitt has been cut. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Diaz swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Diaz lands a jab-cross combination.
Hewitt is rocked! Diaz looks winded! Hewitt showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Diaz.
Oh Hewitt is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!! Diaz will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Hewitt tries to counter with a takedown but Diaz is quick to defend against it. Hewitt swats away the attempt to clinch by Diaz. Diaz avoids the head kick by Hewitt.
That's one minute gone in the round. Diaz tries to close the distance and clinch up but Hewitt swats him away and circles back towards the center. Diaz throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. Hewitt has taken the fight to the clinch.
Hewitt manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Diaz accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Hewitt looking for a sweep. Not yet Hewitt, not yet. Diaz throwing strikes but missing. Hewitt not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Hewitt seems to have got his legs back now. My spies in Cozad MMA Los Angeles inform me that Diaz has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends! Hewitt seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now. Hewitt is scooting his butt against the cage and has managed to get back to his feet. Diaz presses him back against the cage, presumably looking to take the fight back to the mat. Hewitt jumps guard.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Hewitt is on top in guard.
Diaz has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Hewitt can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. Hewitt working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Hewitt lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard. This has been an exciting period of action! Diaz has an active guard here but Hewitt has managed to pass into half guard.
Hewitt looks to score some points with some ground and pound. Diaz wants to control but Hewitt passes into side.
Hewitt staying calm. Hewitt decides to stand up, so the ref orders Diaz to his feet.

Hewitt gets a clinch. Diaz decides to pull guard. Hewitt with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal. Hewitt cracks Diaz with a solid left hand. Diaz escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Hewitt gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Diaz looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Hewitt puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Hewitt escapes and gets back to his feet. Diaz throws a series of punches but Hewitt avoids them all with ease. Hewitt changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit. Hewitt clinches up with Diaz and pushes him back against the cage. Hewitt using the Thai clinch to land knees to the body.
Hewitt jumps into guard, dragging Diaz to the mat.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Hewitt has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall. Diaz throws a big right hand that misses. Diaz must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Hewitt is pulling down on Diaz's head. It's preventing any offense from Diaz, at least for the moment. Hewitt striking off his back, scoring a few points. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Diaz wants to clinch and Hewitt counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for Diaz! Hewitt really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Diaz takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better. Hewitt is trying to get an arm triangle but Diaz is defending well. Hewitt thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead. Hewitt tries for a kimura but Diaz is defending well. Hewitt is trying to get an arm triangle but Diaz is defending well. Hewitt is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Diaz can do to turn this around?
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. Hewitt scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Diaz to see if he's OK. Diaz can't do much from the bottom here. Diaz is looking for a sweep. Diaz looking for a sweep but Hewitt has passed into full mount! Oh no! Hewitt fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!

That's three minutes gone in the round. Diaz is arching his back trying to strike from the bottom but Hewitt turns him over and now has his back. Diaz tries to roll but Hewitt sticks to his back.
Hewitt seems to be going for a rear naked choke. He has an arm under Diaz's chin but Diaz turns very nicely into Hewitt's guard. Good BJJ skills being displayed there by Diaz.
Hewitt has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Hewitt wants to stand but Diaz is controlling the position. Hewitt lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard. Hewitt with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.

Hewitt doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Hewitt manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Ronny Hewitt overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Hewitt keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Diaz's head. Diaz looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Hewitt passes into side control.

So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

Hewitt has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Diaz uses from the top position. Hewitt manages to wriggle out and sneak his way back up to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched up against the cage. Hewitt scores with a hook to the body. Hewitt lands a takedown into guard.
Hewitt is standing up over Diaz. Diaz looks to escape but Hewitt dives into side control.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Diaz is looking to regain half guard here but Hewitt keeps moving and retains side control. Hewitt working away diligently from side control. Landing strikes effectively there - that will score him some points on the judges scorecards.

That's one minute gone in the round. Hewitt is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Diaz is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now. Hewitt is looking to take a break and control but Diaz is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Diaz regains half guard. Diaz is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Hewitt pulls his head out easily.
That's two minutes gone in the round. My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer. Diaz wants to stand back up but Hewitt manages to pass into side control.
Hewitt lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face. Diaz is looking to regain half guard here but Hewitt keeps moving and retains side control. Hewitt works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head. Diaz tries to improve position but can't. Hewitt tries for a kimura but Diaz is defending well. Hewitt decides to stand back up. Ronny Hewitt is winning the standup battle so far.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Diaz takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh. Hewitt scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction. Hewitt keeps the fight on the outside. Diaz will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Hewitt throws a quick head kick that skims the top of Diaz's head. Hewitt keeping at a good range here, avoiding a leg kick.
Diaz takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Diaz throws a leg kick and Hewitt decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Diaz's guard. Hewitt landing some decent shots from guard. Hewitt is working Diaz over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Hewitt scores with a decent looking elbow strike. Hewitt lands a couple of elbows. Diaz is trying to hold Hewitt in close to prevent damage but Hewitt has managed to pass into half guard.
Nate Diaz has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Diaz wants to improve his position but Hewitt is controlling well.
Ronny Hewitt is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach. Still in half guard, Hewitt seems content to control.
