PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Bob Bear (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Quentin Ventura (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ventura has chosen Way of Life as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Bob Bear!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Quentin Ventura!
The judges for this bout are , Frank Antenori and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bear throws the kick towards the body but Ventura avoids it.
Ventura throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Bear sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Ventura tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Bear was well out of range. Poor timing from Ventura.
Ventura will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Ventura fails to land with a series of punches.
Ventura shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Bear pinned against the cage. Bear gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Bear lands a jab-cross combination.


It looks like Quentin Ventura has been cut.
The fight stays on the outside here - Ventura looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
A quick step to the side and Bear tries to counter with a shot to the body but it doesn't connect.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Bear throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.
Bear dives in for a single leg takedown but Ventura sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Ventura misses with a two punch combination.
Ventura punishes Bear's body with a nice straight punch.
Bear leaves Ventura with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Ventura throws a left and a right that both miss
and Bear counters with a three punch combo that has Ventura backing up. Ventura nods at Bear to acknowledge the strikes.
Bear shoots in looking for a takedown. Ventura tries to sprawl out of it but Bear keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Ventura manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Bear scores with a one two! Ventura had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.
Ventura fails to land with a series of punches.
Ventura swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Bear counters with a one-two to the body.


That has opened up Quentin Ventura's cut even more.
Some wild striking there from Ventura.
Ventura tries to bum rush Bear with a series of wild strikes but Bear uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Ventura throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Bear's waist but Bear gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Ventura off to one side.
Bob Bear has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Quentin Ventura.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Bear shoots in for a double leg but Ventura sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Ventura rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Bear moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Bear looks for a takedown but Ventura sprawls well.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Ventura shoots in looking for a takedown but Bear manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Ventura's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Bear dives in and grabs Ventura's left leg, looking for a takedown. Ventura pushes down on Bear's head and hops out.
Ventura shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Bear sprawls well. Bear wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Ventura gets slowly back to his feet.

Bear closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Bear jumps guard.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Bear holds on and takes a little breather.
Ventura trying to control the position from guard on top but Bear is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Bear looking to hit a scissor sweep but Ventura is one step ahead there.
Ventura stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Bear swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Bear is adopting a defensive guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Ventura postures up.
Ventura connects with a couple of short punches.
Ventura trying to control the position from guard on top but Bear is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Ventura stands up from Bear's guard - Ventura perhaps looking for a knockout.
Ventura jabs Bear to the body, keeping him at a distance.
Ventura has done a lot of speed work in the buildup to this fight.
Ventura shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Bear as he avoids it easily.
Bear quickly followed up with a counter body kick but doesn't connect.
Ventura fails with the takedown.
Ventura shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Bear pinned against the cage. Bear gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Bob Bear dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Quentin Ventura's cut.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Bear throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Ventura will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Ventura motions for Bear to come forward. Ventura throws a leg kick but it misses it's target.
Ventura throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped

and Bear counters by clinching up.
Bear wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Ventura has him pressed against the cage.
Bear wants to break the clinch but can't.
Ventura stops a takedown attempt from Bear.
Ventura gets underhooks to prevent Bear's takedown attempt.

Ventura jumps guard and drags Bear to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Ventura can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Bear controls the pace.

Ventura had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Bear defends it easily.
Ventura is trying to control the position from the bottom.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Bear is trying to tuck his arms in to keep them safe but Ventura has managed to isolate one of them and has got a loose triangle. Bear is looking to defend but Ventura has done well to lock his legs together - this could be big trouble for Bear! Ventura pulls down on the head and a little smile comes across his face - he knows he's got it. Yep, Bear taps out and this one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:26 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Quentin Ventura!
