The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bernardo fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Bernardo closes the distance and clinches up with Whitley, looking for a takedown. Bernardo pushes Whitley against the cage but Whitley circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Ron Whitley has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Bernardo Bernardo.

Bernardo doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Whitley counters with a nice double leg into side control. Bernardo won't be happy with that.
Bernardo takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head.
Bernardo really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Whitley. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Whitley will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Whitley is working to tighten his grip on Bernardo's neck. He's isolated an arm and is working for an arm triangle. Bernardo has recognised the danger and is trying to turn with the submission but Whitley is really squeezing tight and eventually Bernardo passes out! Whitley breaks the hold and jumps onto the cage to celebrate! Submission of the night, I'd say!
