Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ariel Hodge (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rhys Duch (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Ariel Hodge!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Rhys Duch!
The judges for this bout are Jeff Smith, Chris Saunders and Roger Salmon.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hodge shoots in for a double leg but Duch sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

Duch closes the distance and clinches.
Hodge has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
Duch gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Hodge.

Hodge breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Duch connects with a right hand. Hodge shakes it off.


It looks like Ariel Hodge has been cut.
Hodge throws a low kick but it's checked well by Duch.
Duch shoots in for a takedown but Hodge shows good takedown defense.
Hodge seemed to be looking to counter by closing the distance.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
An inside leg kick lands from Hodge.
Duch tries to bum rush Hodge with a series of wild strikes but Hodge uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Hodge shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Duch pinned against the cage. Duch gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Duch unleashes a big counter combination but Hodge bobs and weaves and avoids any damage.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ariel Hodge. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Duch forces Hodge back against the cage and clinches.

Duch breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Duch bucks up and tries to throw Hodge off but instead Hodge has got his back!

Hodge is working for the rear naked choke. He has one arm under the chin but Duch has hold of the other arm. A bit of a stalemate here.

Duch trying to control the hands but Hodge breaks the grip.
Duch is in bad spot here.

Hodge working for a RNC but it's not happening just yet.
Duch trying to control the action but Hodge just sinks the hooks in.

Hodge is staying calm and holding on to the back position, whilst working on a rear naked choke. Duch is defending well though. Hodge let's go of the attempt for now.

Duch wants to control his opponent's hands but Hodge gets his hands free.
Hodge has the hooks in. Duch is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted.
Duch looks to control his opponent's hands but he's not mananging it at the moment.
Duch looking very determined here, making life difficult for Hodge.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Duch wants to escape the position.
Duch keeps trying to improve his position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Ariel Hodge will probably get the nod.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.



Hodge drives through and clinches with Duch against the cage.

Hodge pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Duch looks for the body kick but Hodge saw that one coming.
The fight stays on the outside here - Hodge looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Rhys Duch seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Duch has closed the distance and engaged Hodge in a clinch.

Duch breaks the clinch.

Duch closes the distance and pushes Hodge back into the cage.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Duch is pressed up against the cage. Hodge has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Duch down to the mat. Duch avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

Duch closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Duch lands in his opponent's guard.

Hodge is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Duch is aware though and is defending well.

Hodge will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.
Hodge throws some sloppy strikes off his back.

Duch stands and steps away. Hodge gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

Hodge seemed to be looking to counter by closing the distance.
Duch lands with an overhand left.
Duch misses with a series of wild punches.

Duch is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Hodge gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
Duch drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Ariel Hodge has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Rhys Duch.

Duch fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Hodge, pushing him back against the cage.
Hodge goes for a takedown attempt but Duch pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Hodge looks for a takedown but Duch sprawls well.
Duch changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.
Hodge shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Duch pinned against the cage. Duch gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Duch pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Duch scores with a leg kick.
Hodge shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Duch but Duch pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Duch scores with a jab.
Hodge lands a leg kick and bounces back out of range.
Duch has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Hodge tries for a takedown but Duch sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Duch replies with a solid counter kick to the body but Hodge blocks it well.
Hodge throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Duch's waist but Duch gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Hodge off to one side.
Rhys Duch seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Duch fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Hodge manages to avoid it.

Duch drives through and clinches with Hodge against the cage.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Hodge looking for a takedown.
Duch is struggling to control the position.

Duch escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Duch slaps away a takedown attempt from Hodge, before circling back to the center of the mat.

Duch moves into range and clinches up with Hodge.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Duch pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Hodge fails with a takedown attempt.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Rhys Duch showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Duch shoots in and gets a takedown into Hodge's guard.
Duch not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Duch postures up and lands a big shot to Hodge's brow.
Hodge looking to control.

Hodge is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Duch defends well.

Duch has gone for a leg lock! Hodge slips out almost immediately though and dives into Duch's guard.

Hodge drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Duch dives on top into guard.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Hodge has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Duch can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Hodge looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Duch has picked Hodge up and slammed him! Hodge can't keep hold of the triangle and Duch manages to pass to side control!

Duch decides to take the fight back to the feet.
Duch tries a head kick but it misses.

Duch lands a big head kick that sends Hodge tumbling to the mat! Duch takes a step backwards and waves Hodge back to his feet - he wants the finish!


Hodge is rocked!

Duch closes the distance looking for a takedown. Duch picks Hodge up and slams him brutally to the floor. Hodge is out! He's out cold! Wow, you don't see a finish like that every day!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:52 of round 3, we have a winner by way of KO (Slam). Rhys Duch!
Rhys Duch decided to thank the fans in attendance for making a great atmosphere. It seemed to go down pretty well.
