PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Stumpy Johnson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Touko Unikeko (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Unikeko is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Gesaffelstein - Opr. On his way into the cage it seems that Stumpy Johnson has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Stumpy Johnson seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 7 - 0, fighting out of New York, Stumpy Johnson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 12 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Touko Unikeko!
The judges for this bout are Robert Douchet, Trevor Gratis and Alec Ball.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Johnson shoots for a takedown but Unikeko saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Unikeko feints the counter takedown.
Unikeko has been working on his striking defense in training and it's paying off as Johnson is landing a low percentage of strikes.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Johnson enables Unikeko to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Johnson manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Unikeko sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Johnson's guard.

Unikeko has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Johnson tries to regain full guard. Instead though, Unikeko has advanced to mount. Uh oh.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Johnson sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.

Unikeko is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Unikeko connects with a nice short shot to Johnson's temple.

Johnson has guillotine here! It looks pretty tight! Could this be all over! No, Unikeko escapes and passes into side control at the same time. Nice work there by Unikeko!

Unikeko is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Johnson doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Unikeko.

Unikeko is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.
Unikeko looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Johnson is looking for a sweep. Unikeko is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Unikeko is thwarting Johnson's attempts to control the position.
Unikeko is nestled in close to Johnson, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.

Unikeko is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Johnson has managed to free his arm - good work.

Unikeko looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Johnson with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Unikeko is controlling the pace.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Unikeko seems to be working for a kimura but Johnson defends the submission attempt.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Touko Unikeko dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Unikeko tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Johnson defends well and Unikeko ends up having to push Johnson into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Unikeko will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Stumpy Johnson is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Johnson tries for a takedown but Unikeko sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Johnson looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Johnson shoots in but no luck this time.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Stumpy Johnson. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Johnson looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Unikeko is fending him off so far but Johnson persists. Nope, Unikeko circles away and we're back to standing.

Unikeko lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.

Unikeko is landing with some decent strikes but Johnson is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.
Touko Unikeko has got the better of the ground game so far.
Unikeko fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!


Johnson is rocked!
Johnson is in all sorts of trouble here.
Oh Johnson is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Unikeko lands a big elbow - Johnson is in trouble! More strikes from the mount and Johnson is forced to tap out!
