Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Evan Odds! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Sergio Tanaka! The judges for this bout are Tatsuya Matsuyama, Yasuomi Hirokawa and Shigeki Fujiwara.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Sloppy strikes from Tanaka. Those never looked like landing. Odds seemed to be looking to counter by closing the distance. Tanaka will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Horrible takedown attempt by Tanaka or perhaps it was just good defense by Odds, which made it look bad. Odds fails in his attempt to clinch. Tanaka keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Odds misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Tanaka.
Tanaka uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Odds.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Odds throws a right hand that misses
and Tanaka counters into the clinch. Nicely done. Tanaka goes for a takedown attempt but Odds pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Tanaka slips a jab from Odds. Odds misses with a body shot
and Tanaka counters with a takedown into side control. Odds is looking to reverse the position. Both fighters have adopted an aggressive gameplan on the ground!
That's one minute gone in the round. Odds trying to remain calm as Tanaka controls from the top position. Odds is trying to buck Tanaka off. Tanaka is working for what looks like an arm triangle here. Odds is trying to escape and Tanaka transitions quickly into an armbar! He's slapped it on tight and Odds is forced to tap! Nice work there by Tanaka! Very nice indeed!
