PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Theodore Parrish (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Reiko Akira (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Theodore Parrish!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Reiko Akira!
The judges for this bout are Yuuki Gou, Shigeki Sano and Sosuke Kotani.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Parrish drives through with a takedown into Akira's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.
Akira tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Parrish keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Akira's head.
Parrish has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Akira is proving hard to escape from.
Akira is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Parrish has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Akira bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Parrish's guard.

Parrish will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Akira wants to sweep but no luck.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Akira looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Parrish decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

Akira fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Parrish sprawls well initially but Akira persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

This has been an exciting period of action!

Akira closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Parrish quickly recovers to half guard.

Akira has hold of Parrish's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Parrish manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.

Akira jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Parrish is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Parrish and Akira has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.
Akira wants to control for a moment but Parrish uses the opportunity to move back to half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Akira is just content to waste time from the top position. Parrish takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.
Akira throws a big elbow that misses.

Akira is looking to advance position but Parrish has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount!

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Parrish is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.

Parrish works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.

Akira is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Parrish keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Akira's head.
Akira controls Parrish momentarily but Parrish frees himself.
Akira manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Parrish manages to get himself to full guard.

Akira wants to control from the top but Parrish keeps moving.
Akira seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Parrish can't keep his opponent in guard - Akira advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Akira is trying to advance to mount but he's lost his balance and Parrish reverses the position - he's now on top in Akira's guard.

Akira is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Parrish throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.

Akira looking for a guillotine here but Parrish defends easily.

Parrish gets to his feet - Akira follows without any prompting.
Akira misses with a takedown attempt - Parrish sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Parrish looked to counter that last move with a leg kick but didn't pull the trigger.

Akira gets tackled into the cage by Parrish. Parrish maintains the clinch.

Akira drags the fight down to the ground.
Parrish postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
Akira is trying to control the position but Parrish postures up.

Akira escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Parrish gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

That was a close second round but I would say that Theodore Parrish will probably get the nod.

Parrish feints and as Akira raises his hands in defense, Parrish changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Akira has his feet on Parrish's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work.

Akira has his foot on Parrish's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Parrish works his way back into a safe position though.
Parrish really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Parrish stands and steps away. Akira gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Akira takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Parrish gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Akira to score an easy takedown into full guard.

Parrish pushes Akira off and gets back to his feet.

Akira darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Akira has hold of the far side arm. He's working for the Kimura, can Parrish defend it? Akira steps over the head and cranks it - Parrish is tapping out! That was textbook stuff right there - nice submission victory for Akira!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:44 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Reiko Akira!
