Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
7 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Joe Schilling! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Wayne Barret! The judges for this bout are Steve Montenegro, Franklyn Lucas and Chad Campbell.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Barret wants to clinch up but Schilling keeps it at a distance. Barret wants to clinch but Schilling slips to the side and Schilling counters with an inside leg kick. Barret ducks under a wild hook from Schilling. Schilling looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight. Wayne Barret seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Schilling cracks the inside of Barret's front leg. Barret tries to grapple but his opponent circles and Schilling counters with a stiff right hand. Barret fails with an attempt to clinch.
Barret tries to clinch but Schilling moves out of range. Barret misses with a hook
and Schilling counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head. Barret rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Schilling moves out of range and avoids them all easily. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Schilling scores with a nice strike. Schilling connects with a body shot. Barret tries to clinch but Schilling moves out of range. Barret lands a head kick!
The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Barret fails with an attempt to clinch.
That's one minute gone in the round. Barret rushes Schilling and presses him up against the cage. Barret blocks an uppercut.
An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Barret. Schilling has a couple of punches blocked by Barret.
Barret wants to take the fight to the mat but Schilling manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch. Barret tries to circle away but Schilling has him pinned against the cage. The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Barret takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life. Barret is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though. Schilling is pressed up against the cage. Barret has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Schilling down to the mat. Schilling avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance. Joe Schilling has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Wayne Barret. Schilling throws out a loose jab but Barret uses good head movement to avoid it. Barret slips under a jab from Schilling. Barret is looking for the big counter here. Barret gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here. Schilling tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage. Barret dodges an elbow strike from Schilling.
Schilling misses with a punch on the inside.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Barret jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Schilling walks away with a smile on his face. Barret gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head. Schilling throws a lazy uppercut
and Barret counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Barret. An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Schilling. Barret breaks from the clinch.
Schilling fails in his attempt to clinch. Barret lets it all go there with a big combo counter but none of the punches connected. A swing and a miss from Schilling. Barret wants to counter with a clinch but Schilling pushes him away. Barret needs to keep his hands up - Schilling had a free shot at his head there. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Schilling fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Barret has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage. Barret swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Schilling gets tackled into the cage by Barret. Barret maintains the clinch. Barret drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Schilling gets the underhooks and prevents it.
With the fighters up against the cage, Schilling throws an elbow but misses. Schilling breaks the clinch.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Barret throws a one two combo.
Barret tries to close the distance and clinch up but Schilling swats him away and circles back towards the center. Barret gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here. Barret stalls. Barret breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Schilling feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Barret's calf. Schilling misses with an uppercut. Barret saw that one coming. Barret tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion. Schilling throws out a powerful jab.
Barret is rocked! Schilling is stalking Barret. Barret circles to his left. Keeps circling left. Bam! Straight right from Schilling, and it's lights out! Barret really payed the price for that rookie mistake.
