PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Cain Jones (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Pierre Letang (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jones's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, Hell's Bells- AC/DC. Both fighters will be looking to make this an exciting fight for the fans, I'm sure!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 7 - 1, fighting out of New York, Cain Jones!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Pierre Letang!
The judges for this bout are Saam Ante, Nard Betker and Albert Achterberg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Letang tries to close the distance and clinch up but Jones swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Letang has been working on his striking defense in training and it's paying off as Jones is landing a low percentage of strikes.
Jones rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Letang moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Letang misses with a takedown attempt
and Jones counters with a nice uppercut.

Letang darts in and clinches Jones up against the cage.
Letang misses with some punches.
Jones gets underhooks to prevent Letang's takedown attempt.
Letang doesn't land with the attempted body shot.

Letang drags the fight down to the ground.

Letang has his foot on Jones's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Jones works his way back into a safe position though.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Letang is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Letang is looking for a triangle but Jones pushes his legs off easily.

Letang is working an open guard so Jones takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

Jones lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Letang circles away quickly and effectively.

and Jones connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Jones uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Letang.

and Jones counters with a left to the body.
Letang tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Jones throws a right and a left that Letang avoids nicely.
Jones throws a body punch but Letang moves out of range.

Letang is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Jones to keep the fight standing.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Jones wants to get back to striking at distance but Letang won't allow it.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Letang is trying to slow down the pace of the fight but Jones is keeping busy.

Jones wants to get back to striking at distance but Letang won't allow it.
Good anti-grappling being displayed by Jones as Letang tries to tie him up.
Letang has Jones pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Jones manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Letang changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Jones fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Jones scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

and Letang takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Cain Jones will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Letang tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Jones manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

Jones is looking to break free of the clinch but Letang has double underhooks.
The referee is keeping an eye on Letang - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.
Letang swings away with an uppercut that misses.
Letang tries to pull guard but Jones won't allow it.
Letang jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Jones walks away with a smile on his face. Letang gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Jones has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.

Letang has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Jones clear over his head and slammed him to the mat!
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Jones looks to control his opponent's hands but he's not mananging it at the moment.
Letang is landing with strikes from the back.
Jones rolls, trying to escape but Letang keeps control of the position.

Letang working for a RNC but it's not happening just yet.
Jones tries to escape but Letang has the hooks in and won't let him break free.

Jones is really stuck here.
Letang is not going to allow Jones to sit and survive in this position.
Letang is looking to finish with some ground and pound!

Jones looks to control his opponent's hands but he's not mananging it at the moment.
Jones tries to escape the position - he's now mounted. Is that better or worse? Hard to tell!

Letang looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Jones holding onto his opponent's waist for dear life, as Letang tries to land some strikes to get him to release his grip.
Jones tries to hold on but Letang postures up.
Both fighters have adopted an aggressive gameplan on the ground!
Jones is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Letang is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

Pierre Letang has got the better of the ground game so far.

Letang working for a guillotine from mount but Jones is in no mood to give up.
We've been hearing good reports from Jones's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.

Jones bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!

Letang keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Jones's efforts to push away.

Letang has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Letang is trying to drag Jones to the mat but Jones just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

Pierre Letang showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Jones's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. And we move into the final round!

Letang tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Jones defends well and Letang ends up having to push Jones into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Jones is looking for a counter combo.
Jones throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Letang.
A nice side step and Letang releases a counter shot to the body, but it doesn't find it's home.

Pierre Letang seems to be working more effectively in the clinch in the fight so far.

Letang is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Jones is defending well for now.

Jones misses with a few strikes there.
Jones looks to land a combination but Letang avoids it well.
Jones misses the shot to the body.
Jones uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.
Letang fails with the takedown
and Jones counters with a stiff right hand.
Letang tries to clinch but Jones moves away
and Jones counters with a two punch combo.
Jones's jab looks to have found its range, popping Letang under the eye.
Letang tries to clinch up but Jones circles away and keeps his distance.
Jones misses with a few strikes there.
Jones scores with a crisp jab that stopped Letang in his tracks.
Letang takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Jones bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Letang's head backwards.


Letang is rocked!
Jones wobbles Letang with a right hand and the left hook that follows puts him on his rear! Jones dives in with a huge flying punch that connects right on the button and puts Letang to sleep! - What a violent and spectacular finish!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:11 of round 3, we have a winner by way of KO (Punches). Cain Jones!
Our winner, Cain Jones, made sure he spent some time buttering up the crowd during his post fight interview, which will no doubt bring him a few more fans.
