Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the featherweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
12 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Lorne Greenebaum! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
7 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Because I Can! The judges for this bout are Roosa Järviläinen, Ben Zyskovitsi and Tarja Halkonen.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Greenebaum throws an overhand right that lands on I Can's shoulder, as I Can tries to avoid the shot. I Can throws a right and a left that Greenebaum avoids nicely. Greenebaum scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. I Can doesn't seem bothered though. A leg kick checked by I Can. Greenebaum throws a chopping leg kick but I Can manages to avoid taking any serious damage. As Greenebaum backs off I Can throws a huge counter combo but Greenebaum manages to avoid it all. Greenebaum scores with a slapping inside leg kick. Greenebaum manages to get an easy takedown there - catching I Can on his heels. He'll look to pass I Can's guard now, I'm sure. Greenebaum is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control. Our spies down at at Holding Cell inform us that I Can has really been working on his submissions in the buildup to this fight. Will it pay off? Greenebaum is looking to work some ground and pound but I Can has wrist control. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. I Can controls Greenebaum momentarily but Greenebaum frees himself. I Can has Greenebaum pulled in close to control his posture. I Can looking to control.
That's one minute gone in the round. I Can is looking for a triangle here but Greenebaum uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.
I Can is trying to improve his position. Greenebaum working away diligently from side control. Landing strikes effectively there - that will score him some points on the judges scorecards.
Greenebaum is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position. Greenebaum scoring with punches and elbows. I Can tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Greenebaum wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Greenebaum has control of an arm but I Can manages to advance to Greenebaum's back! I Can is hanging on to Greenebaum's back as he tries to escape.
Greenebaum fending off the submission attempt from I Can. I Can has both hooks in and is working for a choke. Greenebaum is in real trouble here. I Can gets an arm under the chin and tightens the submission attempt... is this the end? Yes, Greenebaum is tapping out! I Can wins by rear naked choke!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:34 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Because I Can! Because I Can is the new featherweight champion! A less than humble Because I Can misjudged his post fight interview somewhat and came across a little too arrogant whilst trying to hype up his own abilities.
