Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
22 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Timur Rubin! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
19 - 9 - 1, fighting out of Helsinki, Roosevelt Coleman! The judges for this bout are Steven Brown, Richard Clark and Paul Tew.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Rubin throws a hook to the side of Coleman's head but Coleman sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully. Rubin shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Coleman sprawls well. Coleman wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Rubin gets slowly back to his feet. Coleman lands a leg kick and bounces back out of range. Nice shot by Rubin. Coleman shapes like he's going to throw a leg kick but settles back down. Rubin changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Rubin ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Coleman moves away. Coleman misses with a right hand and Rubin counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Rubin. Rubin connects with a couple of short punches. Rubin working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
That's one minute gone in the round. Rubin makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard. Coleman looking to hit a scissor sweep but Rubin is one step ahead there. Rubin working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound. Rubin throws a big elbow that misses. Rubin has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Rubin postures up in Coleman's guard and throws a big left but Coleman blocks it. Rubin throwing strikes but missing. Rubin missing there with some ground and pound from the guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Coleman wants to sweep here but Rubin controlling him for the moment. Coleman is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control. Coleman bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Rubin's guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Rubin is pulling down on Coleman's head. It's preventing any offense from Coleman, at least for the moment. Coleman stopping the sweep attempt from Rubin. Coleman postures up in Rubin's guard and throws a big left but Rubin blocks it. Coleman controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling. Rubin looking to hit a scissor sweep but Coleman is one step ahead there. We've been hearing good reports from Rubin's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today. Coleman throws a big elbow that misses.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Rubin is pulling down on Coleman's head to control his posture. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Coleman throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent. Coleman working some strikes from top position. Coleman is looking to work some ground and pound but Rubin has wrist control. Coleman looking to pass the guard. Rubin wants to sweep but no luck. Coleman tries to free his leg and advance position but Rubin is retaining full guard. Rubin is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Rubin scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent. Rubin moves into range and connects with a jab. Rubin swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Coleman.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Rubin moves in looking to clinch but Coleman pushes him off. Coleman ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Rubin moves away. Coleman ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent. Rubin fails with the takedown. Coleman fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Rubin looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath. Rubin feints and then cracks Coleman's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Coleman down. Rubin throws a hook to the side of Coleman's head but Coleman sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Rubin shoots in looking for a takedown but Coleman manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Rubin's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Timur Rubin. That's going to take a lot out of him. Rubin checks a low kick. Bone on bone - not my idea of a good time. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Rubin cracks Coleman with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Timur Rubin dominated that round. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.
Coleman tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Rubin swivels and escapes. Coleman closes the distance and clinches up with Rubin, looking for a takedown. Coleman pushes Rubin against the cage but Rubin circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. Timur Rubin is winning the standup battle so far. Rubin fails with the takedown. Rubin stalks Coleman and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Coleman's face. Coleman staggers backwards, shaken. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Coleman bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Rubin's head backwards. Coleman fakes with the hands and throws a leg kick but Rubin is out of range. Rubin is using his height advantage well here, landing a good percentage of his punches. Coleman on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere.
That's one minute gone in the round. Coleman misses with a kick to the body.
Rubin looks to land a combination but Coleman avoids it well. A countering left hand to the body from Coleman misses. Coleman ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face. Rubin shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Coleman manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage. Coleman is controlling Rubin's posture. Timur Rubin overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Rubin is looking to work some ground and pound but Coleman has wrist control. Rubin won't allow Coleman to sweep him here.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Rubin advances position into side control! Coleman is positioning himself to get back to half guard. A lull in the action here. Coleman is looking to reverse the position. Rubin working the ground and pound. Rubin working the ground and pound from side control. Coleman looks to move to half guard but instead Rubin has passed into mount! Damn! Rubin unloading with bombs!
That's three minutes gone in the round. Coleman tries to get back to half guard but can't. BOOM! Rubin connects with a massive shot to the dome!

The fighters are battling for position here. Coleman manages to regain full guard. Nice work. There's a bit of a scramble here and now Coleman is on top in guard.

Rubin is pulling down on Coleman's head to control his posture. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Coleman accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Rubin is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Coleman is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound. Rubin bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Coleman's guard.

Rubin has a takedown stuffed. Rubin tests Coleman's chin there with a solid looking shot. Coleman misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Rubin.
Rubin half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range. Coleman chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Rubin can pounce on him.
Rubin is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot. Coleman throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Rubin throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd. Coleman has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him. A decent looking cross lands there for Rubin. Rubin lands with a straight right. Coleman didn't see that one coming. Rubin is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Coleman can do to turn this around?

Coleman on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those. Rubin throws a good cross that connects.
Rubin feints and as Coleman raises his hands in defense, Rubin changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard. Coleman manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Rubin manages to get himself to full guard.

Coleman preventing the sweep. Rubin has momentary wrist control but Coleman slips an elbow through the middle. Roosevelt Coleman has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Timur Rubin is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Coleman must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Rubin keeping moving, preventing Coleman from controlling successfully. Rubin pulls Coleman in close to prevent any damage. Rubin utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound. Rubin working a defensive guard here.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Coleman misses with a straight right. Coleman doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body. Coleman on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot. Rubin connects with a single shot there. Coleman misses with a hook. Donk. Rubin catches Coleman right on the button with a cross. A big left from Rubin misses. Coleman throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Rubin tries to counter with a takedown but Coleman is quick to defend against it. Rubin keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Coleman. Rubin moves away from the strike by Coleman.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Rubin shoots in for a takedown but Coleman shows good takedown defense. Rubin scores to the head and body with a nice combination! The fighters circling - Rubin throws out the jab but it was never going to land. Coleman tries to land a front kick but Rubin steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed. Rubin decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Coleman is trying to get back to full guard. Coleman wants to control but Rubin is keeping busy and won't allow it. Rubin is controlling the pace.
Rubin wants to free his trapped foot but Coleman is holding on for dear life with his legs.
And that's the end of the fight! Timur Rubin showed his dominance in that final round. Well Rubin has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
