Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Oliver Ruiz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John Diaz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ruiz kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is OCTAGON. There are an array of beautiful celebrities at ringside tonight! I wonder if any of them paid for their tickets.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

A momentary lapse in concentration from Ruiz enables Diaz to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Ruiz manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Ruiz scrambles and gets back to his feet.

Ruiz rushes Diaz and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Ruiz manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
Ruiz is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Ruiz manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Diaz manages to get himself to full guard.

Ruiz has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Diaz closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Ruiz's guard.

Ruiz is scooting his butt against the cage and has managed to get back to his feet. Diaz presses him back against the cage, presumably looking to take the fight back to the mat.

Diaz is looking for a triangle but Ruiz pushes his legs off easily.

Diaz has his foot on Ruiz's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Ruiz works his way back into a safe position though.

Ruiz is taking a breather. Diaz says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Diaz is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Ruiz scores with a couple of nice shots.

Ruiz maintaining the dominant position here and is working for a kimura. He's locked it up! Diaz could be in real trouble here! He's trying to wriggle out but Ruiz has cracked it and Diaz is screaming in pain - he's tapped out! Great finish by Ruiz!
