PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Roger Cantor (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Hiroshimo Sakamoto (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 17 - 12 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Roger Cantor!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 12 - 6 - 1, fighting out of Los Angeles, Hiroshimo Sakamoto!
The judges for this bout are , Timothy Bukovac and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sakamoto lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Cantor circles away quickly and effectively.
Cantor walks forward and throws out a flicking leg kick. Sakamoto checks it nicely though, as he moves to the side.
Sakamoto looks like he wants to counter punch here.
We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Sakamoto has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.
Cantor moves away from the strike by Sakamoto.
Cantor appears to be looking for a counter takedown.
Cantor throws a leg kick that is checked
and Sakamoto counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Sakamoto thows a left - swing and a miss!
Sakamoto tries to check a leg kick but that clearly hurt him.
Cantor motions for Sakamoto to come forward. Cantor throws a leg kick but it misses it's target.
Sakamoto comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Sakamoto throws a nice looking combination but Cantor bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Cantor is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Sakamoto.
Sakamoto fails to land with a series of punches.

Sakamoto takes the fight into the clinch.

Cantor is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Sakamoto can't fight it off and eventually Cantor manages to take the fight to the floor. Sakamoto looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Cantor lands a couple of elbows.

Sakamoto throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Cantor escapes and throws Sakamoto's legs to the side, diving into side control!
Sakamoto tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Cantor wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

The strikes coming from Cantor are missing the target in this wave of attacks.

We've been hearing that Cantor has been drilling a lot of ground and pound in training, so let's see if he get the finish.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Sakamoto is looking to improve his position.
Cantor thows a huge punch but Sakamoto dodges it nicely.
Sakamoto is not content to let Cantor control the position.
Cantor is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Sakamoto is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

Sakamoto is not content to let Cantor control the position.
Cantor is looking to stall here but Sakamoto recovers full guard.
Cantor stands and throws Sakamoto's legs to the side, diving into side control.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Sakamoto can't do much from the bottom here.

A close round but Hiroshimo Sakamoto will probably get the nod.

Sakamoto throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Cantor.
As Sakamoto backs away, Cantor returns fire with a leg kick that just misses.
A slow jab from Sakamoto misses its intended target.
A cross from Sakamoto lands.
A low kick from Cantor is predictable there
letting Sakamoto counter with a right hand.
Sakamoto tries to close the distance and clinch but Cantor swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Cantor turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick.

A slapping body kick lands there for Sakamoto.

and Sakamoto makes the exchange count by landing a cracking kick to the body. Cantor really felt that one!

Good leg kick by Sakamoto there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
Hiroshimo Sakamoto seems to be getting the better of the standup.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Sakamoto bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Cantor's guard.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Sakamoto stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Cantor swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Cantor manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Sakamoto manages to get himself to full guard.

Hiroshimo Sakamoto showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! And we move into the final round!

Cantor on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.
Sakamoto feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Cantor's calf.
Cantor takes a body punch but keeps moving.
Cantor does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.

Cantor is trying to control the position but Sakamoto postures up.
Roger Cantor overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Cantor tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Sakamoto tries to free his leg and advance position but Cantor is retaining full guard.
Sakamoto throws an elbow that misses. Cantor uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Sakamoto's guard. Nice move by Cantor!

Cantor throws a strike but Sakamoto rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.


Cantor is looking to cinch up a triangle. Sakamoto throws the leg off to one side though and gets in tight to Cantor's body to avoid the submission. Cantor has instead reached around Sakamoto's neck and now has a guillotine! Oh, this is biiiig trouble! Cantor arches his back and squeezes and forces the tap from his hapless opponent.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:57 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Guillotine). Roger Cantor!
