Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, James Gattis! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Bobby Krete! The judges for this bout are Micheangelo Fripello, Roger Salmon and Paul Gruel.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Krete lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected. Bobby Krete seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Krete shoots in and bounces Gattis off the cage to secure the takedown into guard. Krete throwing strikes but missing. Krete stopping the sweep attempt from Gattis. Krete really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Gattis. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Krete seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up. Gattis wants to stand up but Krete is controlling him. Krete must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Krete wants to get up but he can't break Gattis's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
That's one minute gone in the round. Gattis wants to sweep here but Krete controlling him for the moment. Krete is fighting to break Gattis's control of his arms but Gattis is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment. The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup. Gattis has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance. Gattis wants to stand and escape but Krete is having none of it.
The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet. Gattis wants to clinch. Gattis leaves Krete with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt. Gattis throws a big counter combination but Krete scrambles out of danger and avoids any damage. Krete closes the distance and pushes Gattis back into the cage.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd. Krete is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Gattis to keep the fight standing. A short left from Krete. Gattis stalling here - the referee won't stand for too much of that.
Gattis is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Krete can't fight it off and eventually Gattis manages to take the fight to the floor. Krete looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard. Gattis stays in close to Krete's body and controls the position. Gattis looking to pass the guard. Gattis got a little sloppy there for a moment and Krete has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Gattis has managed to get both his arms back between Krete's legs - danger averted.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Gattis trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Gattis stands up from Krete's guard - Gattis perhaps looking for a knockout. Gattis shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Krete defends it nicely. A telegraphed takedown attempt from Krete is defended easily by Gattis. James Gattis has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Bobby Krete. Krete tries to clinch but fails miserably and Gattis counters with a nice double leg into guard. Krete is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched. A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Gattis just leaning against Krete, taking a breather. Krete fails to pull guard.
Gattis is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though. The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Gattis trying to land knees to the body.
Gattis putting his Muay Thai to good use. He has Krete in a tight clinch and is doing some damage with knees to the body. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Gattis throws an elbow that misses.

Krete leaning his opponent against the cage. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Some stalling of biblical proportions here from Gattis. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
A close round but Bobby Krete will probably get the nod. The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!
A head kick misses from Gattis. Gattis gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Krete to score an easy takedown into full guard. Gattis has his feet on Krete's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work. Krete gets the takedown into side control. Gattis throws Krete to one side and escapes! The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Krete is looking to clinch. Nice takedown defense from Gattis. No joy for Krete on that attempt. Gattis gets a takedown into half guard. Gattis seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Krete does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
That's one minute gone in the round. Gattis looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Krete is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Gattis keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.
That's two minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. Krete wants to control but Gattis is keeping busy.

The fighters land in half guard but Krete regains guard immediately. Krete has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Gattis off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds. Krete scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Gattis scores with a takedown into Krete's guard. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Gattis in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time. Gattis lands a couple of digs. Krete wants to get back to his feet but Gattis is in a dominant position and won't allow it. Gattis trying to control the position from guard on top but Krete is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Gattis got a little sloppy there for a moment and Krete has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Gattis has managed to get both his arms back between Krete's legs - danger averted. Gattis wants to control from the top but Krete keeps moving. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
James Gattis dominated that second round. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!

Krete avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Gattis. Gattis slips a nice elbow through Krete's hands, connecting with Krete's forehead. Gattis trying to control the action but Krete is working from the bottom. Gattis throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Krete blocking the ground and pound attempt from Gattis. Gattis wants to lay and pray for a moment but Krete keeps working. Gattis decides to stand and escape the position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Krete fails to land the takedown. Krete throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Gattis tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Krete is in Gattis's guard. Gattis scrambles and gets back to his feet.
Krete misses with a head kick.
The fight moves into the clinch position. Krete tries to circle away but Gattis has him pinned against the cage. Krete tries to pull guard but Gattis won't allow it.
Gattis has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Krete uses from the top position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Gattis holds on and takes a little breather. Krete is posturing up here but Gattis has hold of an arm and he's gone for an armbar! Krete tries to roll out but it's too tight and Krete has to tap! Slick submission there by Gattis!
