PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Octavio Clayton (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jonathan Hinkle (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Hinkle is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Circus For A Psycho. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Octavio Clayton!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Jonathan Hinkle!
The judges for this bout are , Timothy Bukovac and Don Winkell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hinkle goes for a double leg but Clayton avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Clayton continues to drive forward.
Clayton attempts a counter takedown but Hinkle avoids it well and moves away.
No luck for Hinkle with that takedown attempt.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Clayton.

Hinkle closes the distance and pushes Clayton back into the cage.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Hinkle stops a takedown attempt from Clayton.

Hinkle effectively controlling the action here.

Hinkle manages to pull guard.

Clayton is fighting to break Hinkle's control of his arms but Hinkle is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Hinkle is trying to control the position but Clayton postures up.
Hinkle striking off his back but it's not causing Clayton any problems.
Clayton seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Hinkle looking for a sweep. Not yet Hinkle, not yet.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Clayton is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Hinkle shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Clayton as he avoids it easily.
Octavio Clayton has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jonathan Hinkle.
Hinkle will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.
It looked like Clayton was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit.

Hinkle closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Hinkle can't break the clinch.
Clayton wants a takedown but no success here.

Hinkle decides to pull guard.
Hinkle controls Clayton momentarily but Clayton frees himself.

Hinkle working away from the bottom but not quite defensive enough there because Clayton has passed into half guard!
Hinkle tries to regain full guard. Instead though, Clayton has advanced to mount. Uh oh.

Clayton is in the full mount, landing strikes.

Clayton stands up from the dominant position, so we're back on the feet.
Hinkle tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Clayton swivels and escapes.
Hinkle looks winded!
Clayton moves out of range of the body kick from Hinkle.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Nice takedown defense from Hinkle. No joy for Clayton on that attempt.
Hinkle changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.

Hinkle has managed to clinch.

Hinkle has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Clayton clear over his head and slammed him to the mat!
Clayton is trying to stand back up.
Will Hinkle go for the finish here or will he try and keep control of the position?
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Clayton rolls and manages to get back to half guard. Nicely done.
The fighters are battling for position here. Clayton manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jonathan Hinkle dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Hinkle changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Clayton tries to avoid it but Hinkle manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Clayton to the ground. Clayton escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Clayton looks for a takedown but Hinkle sprawls well.

Hinkle gets the takedown into side control.
Hinkle trying to control the action but Clayton is working from the bottom.
Clayton is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Hinkle off and has taken his back!
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Clayton really has the hooks in deep now - there seems like no escape for Hinkle.

Clayton is not going to allow Hinkle to sit and survive in this position.

Clayton is looking for the choke from the back position but Hinkle is controlling his hands well.
Hinkle trying to get back to his feet but Clayton is in full control for now.
Hinkle trying to control but not successfully.
Clayton biding his time, looking for the opening.

I really don't envy Hinkle right now.
Clayton will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Hinkle trying to control but he's just got himself in more trouble.
Hinkle wants to escape the position.
Hinkle is breathing heavily.
Hinkle just trying to survive but Clayton is wriggling into a better position, looking to finish.
Clayton is controlling his opponent, waiting for an opportunity to finish.

Hinkle trying to control but not successfully.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Clayton has good solid back control here.
Hinkle is in bad spot here.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Clayton has the hooks sunk in and you can see the will to fight slowly draining out of Hinkle's body.
Clayton is looking to control Hinkle but Hinkle is wriggling around and keeping busy.
Hinkle tries to break free.
Octavio Clayton overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Clayton wants to control but Hinkle is keeping busy.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Octavio Clayton dominated that second round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!


Nice sprawl there from Clayton as Hinkle shoots in.
Clayton is looking to counter the offense by Hinkle and move into the clinch.
Clayton will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Hinkle has taken the fight to the clinch.

A nice right hand lands inside from Hinkle.
Clayton is trying to push Hinkle away but Hinkle has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.
Hinkle is clearly stalling here... Pick up the pace son.

Clayton gets control of Hinkle's arms and successfully pulls guard. Clayton will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.

Clayton drops back looking for a leg! Hinkle is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Hinkle manages to kick Clayton off! Clayton jumps back into Hinkle's guard.

Hinkle is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Clayton trying to control the position from guard on top but Hinkle is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Clayton stops Hinkle from standing up.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Hinkle can do anything to dispel that myth.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Hinkle looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Clayton passes into half guard.
Clayton controlling the pace.
Hinkle trying to hold on to Clayton's head to control him but Clayton postures up.
Clayton is controlling the pace.

Clayton tries to stand but his hand is stuck under Hinkle.
Hinkle is looking to get back to full guard here but Clayton has managed to pass to side control instead.
Clayton gets to mount! Hinkle was on the offensive and wasn't defending properly.

Clayton stands up from the dominant position, so we're back on the feet.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Hinkle rushes Clayton and presses him up against the cage.

Hinkle has picked Clayton up - he's going for a ride! Hinkle dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.
Clayton is looking to improve his position.
Clayton is pressing down on Hinkle's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Hinkle stands up and waves to Clayton to follow him.

Clayton shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Hinkle's guard.

Hinkle pushes Clayton off and scrambles back to his feet.

And that's the end of the fight!
Jonathan Hinkle comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I have no idea who won that fight. Let's wait and see whether the judges are as confused as me! Time for a split decision perhaps?!. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
