Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Matthew Ryan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tyler Schmidt (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ryan has a slight injury, which hopefully won't affect the fight too much. Matthew Ryan has the edge in experience - let's see if he can make that count tonight.

0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Tyler Schmidt! The judges for this bout are Franklyn Lucas, Reed Andrews and Chad Campbell.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Ryan walks into a straight right hand from Schmidt. Ryan looks exhausted already! Oh dear, he should have come in in better shape than this! Schmidt throws a combination. Ryan tries to block but a couple of punches get through. Schmidt darts in and out, connecting with a jab. Schmidt ducks down and throws a hook to the body. Ryan is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Schmidt. Ryan on the wrong end of a nice jab. Ryan has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Ryan there as he acknowledges the shot. This has been an exciting period of action! Schmidt digs a good body shot into Ryan's ribs. Schmidt closes the distance and lands a one-two. Schmidt works Ryan's body with a nice hook. That's one minute gone in the round. Schmidt moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination. Ryan tries to clinch but Schmidt moves away and Schmidt counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work. Ryan gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there. Schmidt has used his reach advantage pretty well so far tonight. Schmidt goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo. Ryan gets cracked there but stands up to it.
Schmidt lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook. This has been an exciting period of action! Schmidt fakes a head shot and lands one to the body. Schmidt closes the distance and lands a one-two. Ryan has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Ryan there as he acknowledges the shot. Tyler Schmidt seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Left hook, right uppercut from Schmidt. Ryan has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Schmidt finds it's way round the side to connect with Ryan's head.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Left hook, right uppercut from Schmidt. Schmidt moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination. Ryan avoids a kick to the body.

Schmidt is trying to slow down the pace in the clinch, to catch his breath. Schmidt avoiding damage.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Schmidt is trying to push Ryan away but Ryan has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere. Ryan wants to stall.

Schmidt's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not. That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action. Schmidt lands a right uppercut that snaps the head of Ryan backwards. Schmidt can't break the clinch.
Ryan keeps control of Schmidt as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks. Ryan is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though. Our sources have told us that Ryan has been working on his knees in the buildup to the fight. Schmidt stops a takedown attempt from Ryan.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Matthew Ryan. That's going to take a lot out of him. Ryan tries to pull guard but Schmidt forces him back to his feet, against the cage. Schmidt wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Ryan has him pressed against the cage. Ryan's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. A right-left combo lands from Schmidt. The crowd applaud the fighters' efforts here as the round comes to an end. Schmidt lands a nice looking body shot.

Tyler Schmidt dominated that round. That's time! Ryan's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.
Schmidt jabs at Ryan's body. Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Schmidt. A head kick misses from Ryan. As Ryan backs off Schmidt throws a huge counter combo but Ryan manages to avoid it all. Schmidt has been the more effective fighter overall so far. Ryan checks a low kick. Bone on bone - not my idea of a good time. Ryan takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket. Ryan takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
Schmidt connects with a single shot there. Danga de danga de dang - Schmidt scores with a four punch combination! Schmidt scores with a shot to the body.
Schmidt with a jab. Ryan walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Schmidt misses with a body kick. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Schmidt digs a good body shot into Ryan's ribs.

Nice straight punches there by Schmidt. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Schmidt. No joy there for Schmidt, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Schmidt wants to slow Ryan down by chopping away at his legs. Ryan throws a big counter combination but Schmidt scrambles out of danger and avoids any damage. Schmidt throws a shot to the body.
Ryan is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Schmidt. Ryan looks like he's developed a pretty tasty lump over his left eye. He'll need to avoid taking much more damage to that. Schmidt displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Ryan throws out the jab. Ryan closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Schmidt to the mat! Schmidt manages to get full guard. We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Ryan gets to his feet - Schmidt follows without any prompting. Ryan has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Schmidt finds it's way round the side to connect with Ryan's head. Schmidt lands a jab to Ryan's midsection. Ryan clinches. A head punch blocked on the inside by Schmidt. Ryan jumps guard and drags Schmidt to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back. Ryan trying to punch from his back but it's not doing any damage. Ryan looking for a sweep. Not yet Ryan, not yet. The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now. Ryan utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Ryan is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control. Schmidt must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Ryan looking to try and escape his hips here, looking for a submission. It looks like he's going for a triangle but Schmidt is defending well. Ryan quickly switches to an armbar and extends the arm! Schmidt has no choice but to tap, to a very quick submission! Wow, that was lightning fast! Ryan celebrates on the cage, with the crowd.
