PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Rickey Snider (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tony Kim (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Fingers crossed for an exciting fight - I'm sure both fighters are looking for a nice under the table bonus!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Rickey Snider!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Tony Kim!
The judges for this bout are Shigeki Sano, Yukihiro Yamamoto and Taro Takaoka.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kim stuffs the takedown.
Snider really is a fat lump.
Snider moves out of range of the body kick.
Snider looks to score with a jab to the body but Kim is just out of range.
Snider throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Kim's waist but Kim gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Snider off to one side.

Kim rushes Snider and presses him up against the cage.
Kim misses with a shot to the kidneys.
Kim can't break the clinch.
Snider scores with a hook to the body.
Snider jumps guard but Kim stands there with Snider around his waist. Snider gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Rickey Snider. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Kim digs a right hand underneath Snider's ribcage. Snider let out a lung full of air as it connected.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Kim misses with a hook to the ribs.
Kim is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Snider to keep the fight standing.

Kim working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.

Snider wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Kim wants to get up but he can't break Snider's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Snider wants to stand and escape but Kim is having none of it.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Snider wants to sweep but no luck.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Kim throws a body kick that misses.
Snider slips a jab and a cross from Kim.
Snider tries to score a power double leg takedown but Kim sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Snider somewhat.
Kim misses with a double jab.
Kim will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Kim closes the distance and clinches.

Kim stalling the fight.

Kim pulls guard successfully.
Snider with a nice head shot there.
Snider sitting in guard here, content to control.
Snider postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Snider scores with a decent looking elbow strike.
Snider has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Snider lands a couple of decent looking shots.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Snider's corner. There ya go! There ya go!

Snider throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Snider is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
Snider scores with a decent looking elbow strike.
Snider loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

Snider is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Snider moves into the clinch successfully.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Snider ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Snider no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
Kim must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Snider is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Kim is controlling him.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Tony Kim will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!



Snider manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Kim on his heels. He'll look to pass Kim's guard now, I'm sure.

Kim manages to wriggle out and sneak his way back up to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched up against the cage.
A frustrated look appears on Kim's face as he tries to break the clinch.
Kim is trying to force a seperation but Snider has the dominant position.

Snider has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Kim regains guard immediately.
Snider is standing up over Kim. Kim looks to escape but Snider dives into side control.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Snider content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.
Kim is breathing heavily.

Snider tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Snider has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Kim is looking for a sweep.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Kim takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
Kim tries to get back to half guard but can't.
A lull in the action here.
Snider working away diligently from side control. Landing strikes effectively there - that will score him some points on the judges scorecards.
Snider creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots.

Snider tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.

Snider lands a nice forearm strike.
Kim tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Check out the look on Snider's face as he threw that strike - that's one determined fighter!

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Kim is trying to escape the position but Snider is controlling the position.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Snider shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Snider was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Kim is working to avoid the ground and pound but Snider connects with a decent elbow.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Snider's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Rickey Snider dominated that second round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


Snider misses with a takedown attempt - Kim sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Kim fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Tony Kim seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Snider appears to be looking for a counter takedown.
Snider shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Kim counters with a three punch combo that has Snider backing up. Snider nods at Kim to acknowledge the strikes.
Snider shoots in looking for a takedown. Kim tries to sprawl out of it but Snider keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Kim manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Rickey Snider. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Kim has gone for a leg lock! Snider slips out almost immediately though and dives into Kim's guard.

Snider drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Kim dives on top into guard.

Snider is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Kim defends well.
Kim wants to stand but Snider is controlling his posture from full guard.
Snider looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Snider lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Snider postures up and lands a big shot to Kim's brow.
Snider is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Snider postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Snider chips away with some ground and pound.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Snider shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Kim defends it nicely.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Snider will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Kim misses with the combination.

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Tony Kim.
I think Kim has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
