Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
46 - 23 - 1, fighting out of Amsterdam, Harry Punani! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
26 - 12 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Tonton Hong! The judges for this bout are Chris Edwards, Colin Fotheringham and Richard Clark.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Punani misses with the body kick and Hong counters with a low kick, right behind Punani 's knee. Punani throws a low kick but his opponent is out of range.
Hong bobs and weaves and then throws a good body kick. Hong misses the shot to the body. Punani avoids a kick to the body.
Punani misses with a shot to the body and Hong counters with a lovely straight right hand! Hong throws a front kick aimed at Punani's knee but Punani avoids it well. Ouch! a nice leg kick from Hong, right into the meat.
Punani fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Hong has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage. Jab, jab by Hong - just one landing. Hong connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe. Punani thuds a left hand into Hong's body. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Hong scores with a nice right hand.
Punani throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Hong scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard. Hong has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout.
That's one minute gone in the round. Punani fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Hong. Hong scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard. Hong throws a leg kick which misses Punani's front leg but catches the back leg as Punani tries to avoid it. Hong drops Punani with a hook right on the temple. He thinks about going to the ground but Punani looks back up at him and smiles so Hong waves him back to his feet - he obviously thinks he can knock him out after that shot landed.
Punani is rocked! That kick from Hong tenderised Punani's leg. Punani is trying to keep his angry face on. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Hong feints and then winds up with a huge right hand that connects perfectly and sends Punani sprawling to the canvas! Punani rolls over backwards and springs off the cage and manages to regain his footing - how acrobatic! Oh, he's still wobbly - can Hong finish him?!
Oh Punani is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!! Hong circles and sees the opportunity to plant his feet and throw a really nice straight left hand that drops Punani to the canvas! Punani doesn't know where he is but he's trying to survive - Hong keeps piling on the pressure and forces the referee to step in! This one is aaaaaall over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:33 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Tonton Hong! After the fight, Tonton Hong was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.
