Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Paul Walker! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
6 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Aaron Gordon! The judges for this bout are Tiny Johnson, Gwen Towbar and George Francis.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Gordon shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard. Walker looking to work for a kimura from the bottom. Walker misses with some strikes from the bottom.
Gordon looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Gordon is looking for a kimura here.
Gordon is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Walker sees it coming and defends easily. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Walker looking for submissions from an awkward position here. Walker is pressing down on Gordon's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
That's one minute gone in the round. Gordon pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Walker is keeping the position for now. Gordon wants to stand and escape but instead Walker has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard. Walker stopping the sweep attempt from Gordon. Walker trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Gordon keeping moving, preventing Walker from controlling successfully. Gordon really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Walker. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Gordon wants to sweep here but Walker controlling him for the moment. Walker trying to control but Gordon is working from the bottom. Gordon is working an open guard so Walker takes the opportunity to get back to his feet. Gordon takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket. Aaron Gordon seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. A telegraphed takedown attempt from Gordon is defended easily by Walker. Walker shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Gordon napping and manages to drive through into side control!
That's two minutes gone in the round. Gordon is looking for a sweep. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Walker is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Gordon knows the correct defense though, so he's OK. Walker has worked his way into a potential kimura here. Gordon is trying to get out of the position but his squirming has just got him deeper into trouble. Walker yanks on the arm and Gordon is forced to tap due to a very painful looking submission! Nice work by Walker.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:36 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Paul Walker! After winning the bout, Paul Walker thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility. Aaron Gordon spoke after the fight, saying 'hes got lucky'.
