The bell rings for round one and we are underway! A swing and a miss from O'Neil. Ja throws a head kick that half lands.
Ja scores with a kick to the midsection. O'Neil throws a right and a left that both miss. O'Neil definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight. Ja throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. Ja checks a leg kick nicely. O'Neil gets a clinch. Ja missing with knees to the body.
We've been informed that Ja has been sparring a lot of Muay Thai in the buildup to this fight so let's see if that has an impact on the result. A frustrated look appears on O'Neil's face as he tries to break the clinch. Ja's head jolts backwards as he takes an uppercut right on the button! We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Ja missing with knees to the body.
O'Neil lands a short shot on the inside that snaps the head of Ja backwards. O'Neil managing to block the knees to the body from Ja.

A short left from O'Neil. O'Neil is trying to maintain a safe position but Ja gets an underhook and turns O'Neil into the ropes. With the fighters clinched against the ropes, O'Neil creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut. Both guys are working to get underhooks. O'Neil misses with some punches.

O'Neil lands a nice looking hook to the body, against the ropes. O'Neil stalling in the clinch but Ja improves position. O'Neil goes for a body shot but it's blocked.
Ja tries to work over O'Neil's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target. O'Neil scores with a shoulder strike. O'Neil lands a nice uppercut. O'Neil lands with a good tight uppercut to the head.
Ja is rocked! O'Neil blocks a punch to the side of the head.
Ja drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
O'Neil blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning. O'Neil working hard to break the clinch. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Cian O'Neil dominated that round. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Both fighters circling a little - Ja finishes the exchange with a kick to the body. O'Neil rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Ja counters with a series of strikes. O'Neil will be more careful next time no doubt. O'Neil closes the distance and clinches. A short body shot lands from O'Neil as the two fighters clinch.
O'Neil tries to throw a body punch but Ja avoids it by throwing O'Neil back against the ropes. Still in the clinch, O'Neil scores with a nice short uppercut. Kneeeeees! The crowd are calling for knees to the body. Ja obliges. Ja tries to land a knee to the head but O'Neil blocks with his arms.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Ja tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked. O'Neil lands on the inside with an uppercut. O'Neil wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Ja has him pressed against the ropes.
That's one minute gone in the round. O'Neil digs a right hand into Ja's ribs. Those have got to be taking their toll on Ja's gas tank. Ja is breathing heavily. A quick uppercut on the inside from O'Neil. A right hand to the body from O'Neil.
O'Neil breaks from the clinch.
O'Neil fakes a right and follows up with a big left that drops Ja to one knee - oooooh, he's wobbly! Ja looks to clinch but O'Neil throws him off and pummels him into the canvas! Ja taps out under the strikes! The fight is over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:18 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Strikes). Cian O'Neil! Cian O'Neil retains his welterweight title! Cian O'Neil decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
